Here's where to celebrate Veteran's Day this year in San Angelo

From parades to free meals, here's where to celebrate Veteran's Day this year in San Angelo.

Most City offices will be closed on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, in observance of Veterans Day. There will be no interruption of garbage collection or landfill operations, according to a release from the city.

City offices will reopen Monday, Nov. 13.

Among the City operations closed Friday are the Station 618 and Santa Fe Crossing senior centers, Southside and Carl Ray Johnson recreation centers, the San Angelo-Tom Green County Health Department, Fairmount Cemetery’s business offices, Municipal Court and the San Angelo Animal Shelter.

The Women, Infants & Children (WIC) office will be closed Thursday, Nov. 9, in addition to its normal Friday closure.

Friday, Nov. 10

Veterans Day Commemorative Ceremony at 11 a.m. at Fairmount Cemetery, 1120 W. Ave. N.

Fort Concho, including the Barracks 1 Visitor Center, will remain open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for self-guided tours. Veterans and their family members will receive free admission.

Free Veteran's Breakfast is at Denny's, 427 W. Avenue I. Veterans can get a free Original Grand Slam.

The DripBar is offering 50% off any lifestyle drip with a military ID valid through Nov. 10 and 11 at 4202 S. Jackson Street.

Saturday, Nov. 11

Veteran's Day and Black Friday Event with local vendors is from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. at Mattress Firm, 4105 Sunset Drive.

Veteran's Day Parade is at 10 a.m. at 104 Veterans Memorial Drive, going through Downtown. The theme of the parade is honoring the Gulf War Veterans.

Veteran's Day Musical Benefit, the official after party of the parade, starts at noon at The House of FiFi DuBois, 123 S. Chadbourne. There will be concerts and a silent auction benefitting The Veterans Council of Tom Green County. Here is the schedule of events.

12 p.m. - Doors open and silent auction begins

2:30 p.m. - Performance by Cade Demere

3:30 p.m. - Performance by Gage McKnight

4:30 p.m. - Performance by the Cold Shot Band

5:30 p.m. - Silent auction ends

6 p.m. - Winners announced and closing statements

8 p.m. - Salute to Service Showcase w/ THA SHIZZ

Veteran's Day at The Martial Pint starts at 11 a.m. at 19 E. Concho Ave. After the parade enjoy live music and a special brew from Horney Toad Brewing.

Free meal at the San Angelo Elks Lodge is from 11 a.m-2 p.m. The lodge will serve a hamburger and hotdog lunch to all Veterans and their families immediately following the parade. Dine in or carry out the meal at 2121 S. Chadbourne.

2nd Annual Tamale Fest honoring Veteran's Day is at the Pop Art Museum from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at 125 W. Twohig Ave. There will be a tamale eating contest, food stands, live music, vendors and more. All Military and Veteran's get in free with a proper Military ID.

Live music at the VFW, 125 S. Browning Street, with Jake Penrod is from 7-11 p.m. There is a $15 cover at the door.
