Chick-Fil-A is bringing a second location to Topeka.

Gabriana Filice, communications manager for the Georgia-based fast-food franchise, told The Capital-Journal plans are in the earlier stages for it to create a second site at the southwest corner of S.W. 32nd Terrace and Topeka Boulevard.

"We look forward to working through the approval process with the city of Topeka and are excited by the prospect of joining this neighborhood," Filice said. "We hope to have the opportunity to serve new guests delicious food in an environment of genuine hospitality."

New Chick-Fil-A could be a part of potential TIF District in Topeka

The location to which Chick-Fil-A referred is to become the site of an estimated $15 development to be created by Parkville, Missouri-based 911 Walnut LLC featuring two restaurants and a strip retail center.

The Capital-Journal reported reported last month that 911 Walnut plans to tear down The Wild Horse Saloon, 3429 S.W Topeka Blvd., in its efforts to begin the project at the southwest corner of S.W. 32nd and Topeka Boulevard.

Julie Pamplin Castaneda, who owns Wild Horse Saloon but not the building, said she plans to relocate the saloon when the current building is razed, which could be in a couple of years.

The area planned for development covers about 5 acres, with much of that being parking lot.

The developers intend for the two proposed restaurants to stand along the west side of S.W. Topeka Boulevard, with the retail strip mall being located behind them to the west.

Developers are asking Topeka's city government to authorize tax-increment financing for the project and also allow for an extra 2 cents of sales tax be charged on purchases made there, in addition to the sales tax customers already pay.

Topeka's mayor and city council plan to consider the 911 Walnut requests at their weekly meeting Tuesday.

The Capital-Journal received no response after reaching out to city of Topeka communications director Gretchen Spiker and 911 Walnut Inc. owner Sterling Scott with additional questions.

Construction of a new drive-through at Chick-Fil-A, 1625 S.W. Wanamaker Road, began last month.

Justin Lamison, franchisee owner and operator of Chick-fil-A, said Friday on the restaurant's Facebook page there will be three lanes and a new parking lot area.

"Hopefully in about a week or so, hopefully we're driving on this." Lamison said in the post. "It's going to be a nice long drive thru stack that will make the parking lot less congested and hopefully make sure we're never backed out onto the access road or heaven forbid 17th street."
