Here's where to go for free Thanksgiving holiday meals in El Paso

The Abundant Living Faith Center will be among those providing a Thanksgiving meal to those in need.

"Thanksgiving is a time where our families should be well fed, literally and spiritually, and God’s love should be amplified” Jared Nieman, lead pastor, said in a news release.

This year, both church locations are trying to help the community as it continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Great Khalid Foundation Thanksgiving giveaway

The Great Khalid Foundation will have its Great Thanksgiving Giveaway Distribution Day from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday at Mattress Firm, 7840 Picacho Hills Court.

The drive-thru distribution is first-come, first-served and will provide 2,000 families with the ingredients needed for a complete Thanksgiving meal.

People are asked to follow these guidelines:

  • Do not line up until 6:30 a.m.

  • Once in line, every vehicle, up to 2,000, will receive a numbered voucher to avoid line cutting.

  • Only vehicles with valid vouchers will receive a box.

  • One box per vehicle.

  • Do not exit your vehicle at any time. Pop your trunk when instructed for the box to be placed inside.

Groups also offering holiday meals

Veterans and their families are invited to the Fifth Annual Veterans Thanksgiving Lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Salvation Army, 4300 E. Paisano Drive.

In addition to a holiday meal, the Endeavors' Veteran Supportive Services programs will provide blankets, hygiene kits and home essentials for those in need.

Abundant Living Faith Center will provide 1,200 families with Thanksgiving food boxes with a turkey and traditional sides. The giveaway, in partnership with El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank, will be after services at 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Sunday at both church campuses, 1000 Valley Crest Drive and 7100 N. Desert Blvd.

Mi Comunidad Center will provide a free Thanksgiving meal kit from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at 3506 Fillmore Ave. Food Pantry clients are asked to register for the meal by calling 915-774-2164. Limited supplies.

The Salvation Army will offer its annual Thanksgiving meal from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at 4300 E. Paisano Drive. People are asked to stop by the shelter for a ticket in advance of Thursday's meal. Information: 915-544-9811.

The Rescue Mission will have its annual Thanksgiving meal for its residents and the surrounding area, starting at noon Thursday at 221 N. Lee St.
