Here's where the Grapevine Fire is burning east of Prescott Valley

As the Grapevine Fire continues to burn inside Prescott National Forest, here is what we know so far about the blaze.

The fire was first reported on July 21 as thunderstorms moved into the area of the fire. The fire ballooned in size up to almost 1000 acres burned and Type 1 crews deployed to fight the blaze.

The fire is at 0% containment with 998 acres burned.

White Horse Ranch community was placed under "set" status, which means that residents who were previously evacuated may return to their homes as early as Thursday at 7 p.m. after checking in at a roadblock.

More than 200 personnel are fighting the fire, which started on the south side of Mingus Mountain.

Stage 1 fire restrictions are in place for Prescott National Forest.

What caused the Grapevine Fire?

The fire started on July 21 due to lightning from thunderstorms that moved into the area. Heavy winds helped the fire spread quickly.

Where is the fire burning?

The Grapevine Fire is burning 8 miles east of Prescott Valley with communities like White Horse Ranch being threatened by the blaze.

Evacuations and closures?

The quick spread of the fire and lack of containment caused evacuations to be announced by the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

Residents will need documentation of residency to return and will need to check in at the roadblock located at Highway 169 and Old Cherry Road, according to Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

Two large fires, the Grapevine and Racetrack fires, are currently burning inside Yavapai County. Officials put out an ask for help to support emergency and volunteer responders.
