MLGW issued the boil water advisory Friday as a precautionary measure. Once water pressure drops below 20 psi, the provider is obligated to issue the advisory, as per regulations.

"Due to days of freezing weather, MLGW has experienced multiple line breaks, which has resulted in a significant loss of pressure to the drinking water system in Memphis and Shelby County," MLGW announced on X, formerly known as Twitter.

When boiling water for use in cooking, drinking, brushing teeth or more, make sure the water remains at a rapid boil for at least one full minute before removing from heat. Seal water in sanitized containers with tight lids. Tap water is safe to shower in, but avoid getting it in your mouth.
