The number of confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the U.S. has continued to grow over the last week, resulting in substantive restrictions on travel, public gatherings, and more as Americans around the country strive to "flatten the curve," or spread out the number of COVID-19 cases so as not to overwhelm hospitals with a swell of incoming patients.
More people are staying home in response to this global pandemic, but they're also taking precautions to stay safe by stocking up on household essentials like hand sanitizer, toilet paper, cleaning wipes, and other supplies. Another essential item that's getting hard to find, both in-stores and online? Thermometers.
Whether you're shopping online or heading to the stores directly, finding a thermometer right now is next to impossible. Even at retailers like CVS, thermometers were sold out at all of the stores we visited in the Boston area this weekend and unavailable online, showing how high demand is for this diagnostic staple.
"The demand for certain products due to the COVID-19 outbreak may cause shortages at some store locations and we are re-supplying those stores as quickly as possible," said Joe Goode, Senior Director of Corporate Communications at CVS. "Our robust supply chain includes hundreds of small, medium and large suppliers, providing us considerable flexibility and adaptability. We remain in constant contact with our supplier partners, and are on-boarding new suppliers in key focus areas, to help respond to this fluid and evolving situation."
Even still, we've managed to track down a few places that still have thermometers. Supplies are extremely limited right now (but this list is getting updated daily), and most of the available thermometers online won't be shipping out until early April. - Get the Vicks Baby Rectal Thermometer at Walmart for $14.95
- Get the Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer at Walmart for $81.98
