Motorists who travel state Route 403 near Hooversville should expect some minor traffic delays starting next week, as road crews begin to correct a sliding issue along the roadway, just north of the borough line.

Road safety work gets underway

Earlier this week, the District 9 office of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, or PennDOT, announced that on Monday, road crews from Plum Contracting, of Greensburg, will install temporary traffic signals, a construction barrier and attenuators to reduce the two-lane roadway to one lane as work gets underway.

Signs are in place along Route 403 near Hooversville, alerting motorists to a road project north of the borough that starts on Monday. Route 403 will be reduced to one lane in the work area until the work is completed in June.

According to the announcement, the project plan includes removing the existing embankment material and replacing it with rock to create a new, stable slope area. Pipe, inlet and drainage cleaning and the installation of new drainage is also taking place. The work is scheduled to be completed in June.

While work is in progress, motorists are reminded to use caution, obey all traffic signs, signals and flaggers and watch for construction workers and vehicles in the area.

The Hooversville project is part of an overall two-year, $14.5 million PennDOT plan to make significant safety improvements to a section of Route 403 north, from the U.S. Route 219 interchange near Davidsville to the Somerset-Cambria county line in Benscreek. That work is to start this spring and continue through 2024, with a planned shutdown during the winter months.
