Heroes' welcome for Cuba's baseball team despite loss

STORY: The team’s remarkable performance got it to the semi-finals for the first time in 17 years.

Baseball fans filled Havana’s Coliseu de la Ciudad Deportiva arena to cheer on their national team’s players after their Sunday 14-2 defeat by the U.S.A. team at Miami’s LoanDepot Park stadium.

“I’m very happy with the position, it’s a very worthy place for us," said player Yariel Rodriguez.

Cuba’s national baseball team hadn’t visited Miami since at least Fidel Castro took the power, over 60 years ago, local media reported.
