Hershey Bears lose in shootout to Laval Rocket

HERSHEY, Pa. (WHTM) – The Hershey Bears overcame a 2-0 deficit to force overtime against the Laval Rocket on Wednesday but ultimately met their demise in the shootout for a 3-2 loss.

The game marked the end of a five-game road trip which saw the Bears go 3-1-0-1. This loss brings the Bears to a 2-3 record in the shootout for the season.

How it happened

Hershey’s Mike Vecchione got a penalty shot within the first five minutes of gameplay but was stopped by Laval’s goalie Jakub Dobes.

The Rocket opened scoring on a power-play goal from Philippe Maillet, a former Bear, at 15:45. Laval notched another one past Hunter Sheppard at 18:42 courtesy of Jared Davidson to extend their lead to 2-0.

Hershey got on the board in the second period with a goal from Ivan Miroshnichenko. Miroshnichenko hit the post, but the puck found its way back to him with the help of Garrett Roe and Logan Day, allowing him to blast a one-timer. The goal was the rookie’s ninth of the season.

The Bears’ Bogdan Trineyev evened the score off a Laval turnover in the third period for his sixth of the season.

After five minutes of overtime with no victor the Bears and Laval headed into overtime where the Rocket’s Logan Mailloux scored in the third round. The Bears Joe Snively was blocked, conceding the game 3-2 to the Laval Rocket.

The shots were 31-26 in favor of the Rocket. Shepard went 28-for-30 in the loss.

The Hershey Bears return home to host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday at 7 p.m.
