Hertz Car Rentals To Require Employees, Customers Wear Masks

SANTA MONICA, CA — Hertz announced Wednesday that employees and customers will be required to wear face masks.

"To help protect you – and help ensure the health and safety of everyone – we will start requiring customers and employees at our locations to wear masks effective July 27," the company said in a statement.

The CDC recommends people wear masks to help prevent spreading the coronavirus.

Children under age three or anyone with a health condition that prevents them from wearing a mask will not be required to wear a mask.

Hertz is continuing to disinfect vehicles throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

"This is one more step we’re taking to ensure your Hertz rental is the safest way to travel," the company said. "All our cars go through a thorough cleaning and sanitization process before being sealed, so you can rent confidently knowing no one else has entered your disinfected vehicle before you."

The company is continuing to follow guidance from the CDC.

"The CDC recently called on Americans to wear masks to help prevent the spread of coronavirus. Therefore, we’re asking customers and employees to wear masks across all our locations’ touchpoints," Laura Smith, Executive Vice President told customers in a statement.

"This is one more step we’re taking to ensure a safer, faster, easier car rental experience," Smith said.

Lowe's and Home Depot have now required customers to wear masks, along with a growing number of other U.S. retailers, including Walmart and Sam's Club, Best Buy and Starbucks. Costco has required masks since May.
