He's '28.5lbs of pudge with a side of crankiness': Can Frosty the cat find a new home?

Another plump Virginia cat is looking for a new place to call home.

Richmond Animal Care and Control introduced a recent addition to the shelter, a 28-pound kitty named Frosty on Tuesday, to temp cat lovers into adopting him.

Frosty, also known as “One Frosty Too Many” was brought to the facility and never picked up by the man who brought him in, leaving the stray cat with the center.

His name was inspired by the frozen dessert sold at fast food chain restaurant Wendy’s, with the “One .. Too Many” in reference to his size.

'The best belly in town'

“You KNOW we love a cat with a belly, and lord almighty this one has the best belly in town. Meet One Frosty Too Many. He’s 28.5lbs of pudge with a side of crankiness,” according to the original Facebook post.

When Frosty got first got to the shelter, he was actually pretty shy, Adoption and Intake Coordinator Savannah Hughes shared with USA TODAY Wednesday.

“He hid in one of the staff members’ offices at initially, hiding under a desk. And then he kind of came out of his shell more. There were times when he was a little fractious, didn’t trust us, or like us. But now she’s gotten a lot better and seems to be happier,” Hughes said.

Richmond Animal Care and Control has also set up a “Frosty Exclusive Room” because he doesn’t like the shelter. He has become “extremely cuddly and sweet” as a result, Hughes said.

Frosty's weight-loss journey should be 'no hard feat', shelter says

Though Frosty hasn’t blown up online like Patches, a 40-pound spotted cat that was adopted from the shelter in April, Hughes thinks he will get a lot more attention now that he’s out of his shell.

Both cats, who weighed three times more than the average cat, are the largest cats the shelter has seen in the last few years, Hughes said.

They have had a couple of people express some interest in adopting Frosty, but nobody has set up an appointment yet, Hughes said.

“Say what?!!! One Frosty Too Many is still available?! This gentleman has definitely come out of his shell since we last posted him. Frosty is sweet, cuddly, affectionate and just wants to sit by his human all day (he’s currently asleep on Savannah’s lap). He can still get up and move quite easily, so his weight loss journey should be no hard feat,” the shelter wrote on Facebook Wednesday.

If you or someone you know is interested in “adopting this chonk of a cutie cake,” they are encouraged to contact Richmond Animal Care and Control at (804) 646-5573 or via email at Savannah.Hughes@rva.gov.
