'He's Hanging On' - Couple Witness Mountain Lion's Struggle to Bring Down Deer
A roadside life or death struggle between a mountain lion and a deer was witnessed by a rural Idaho couple on December 16.
The couple, who have asked not to be named, recorded the scene from the safety of their car, in which the deer and mountain lion remain locked together, with the mountain lion determined not to let go. One of the car’s occupants says of the lion “he’s hanging on,” as the struggle moves across the road.
The deer, however, survives the encounter, hopping away to safety.
“We were returning to our home and came upon this scene. Traveling this road and mountain pass is a frequent occurrence, and watching for deer to jump out in front of you is always on our minds,” the video’s recorder told Storyful.
Idaho’s Department of Fish and Game site reported a recent case of a mountain lion killing two dogs.
“The remaining miles we traveled to our home we were in awe that we were privileged to see something like this. It has been our thoughts that this should not be for our eyes only and decided to share this unbelievable experience on Facebook and YouTube,” the video’s recorder also told Storyful.
