'He's a team guy first': How 2023 QB Brock Glenn is preparing to join Ohio State football

Before Lausanne Collegiate School’s football season, coach Kevin Locastro planned ahead, sending all of his players film of each opponent the team would face in 2022.

All he could do was ask his players to watch it and hope for the best.

“Some do, most don’t,” Locastro said. “Brock always does.”

To Locastro, senior Brock Glenn has gotten to a point not many quarterbacks reach at the high school level. He understands every position on the offense, knowing what each receiver, running back and lineman is asked to do on any given play. He understands opposing defenses and secondaries, knowing what he has to do to move the ball downfield.

Glenn isn’t the same middle school, wing-T quarterback he was when he first stepped onto Lausanne’s campus. Now the 2023 Ohio State football commit understands and executes an offense his coach expects will only help his transition from Memphis, Tennessee to Columbus in January.

Brock Glenn shows physical and mental maturity

Once Glenn committed to Ohio State, Locastro saw a quarterback playing with a weight off his shoulders.

Glenn’s intentions have always been clear to Locastro , taking a “businesslike approach” to his career, leading to his decision to enroll at Ohio State a semester early. It was something Locastro said has been in the cards for Glenn ever since he took over as the team's starting quarterback as a sophomore.

But that didn't mean Glenn's work at Lausanne was complete.

After his decision was made, choosing the Buckeyes over TCU, Auburn, LSU and Florida State, Glenn honed his throwing mechanics by testing different arm angles and boosted his football IQ and awareness of the offensive scheme instead of only his personal job.

Despite even fewer chances for a team that outscored opponents 332-98 through eight games, Glenn's efficiency has greatly improved, averaging 19.1 yards per completion in seven games according to MaxPreps, nearly three yards per completion more than his junior season.

Glenn also cut down on his interceptions, throwing only two in his first 83 pass attempts compared to nine in 155 attempts his junior year.

While Glenn's physical growth was apparent to Locastro over the course of the season, the coach says he was more impressed by the dramatic development of his mental maturity, becoming an extension of the coaching staff as a vocal leader each time he took the field.

“I’ll be shocked, one day, if he’s not a coach,” Locastro said.

Kevin Locastro feels Brock Glenn's ready for Ohio State transition

While Locastro prides himself on running an offense and a program he feels is as close to a college program as one can find, he knows the transition Glenn’s about to face.

The speed, Locastro said, will be much faster, something he’s seen Glenn preparing for in his final games at Lausanne.

“I think that the coaches at Ohio State will be pleasantly surprised with how developed he is in terms of his knowledge of the game and how far advanced he is for most high school quarterbacks that come to them in January,” Locastro said.

Locastro called Glenn “one of the top three or four kids I’ve ever coached” in terms of talent.

But that’s not Glenn’s lasting legacy. His legacy is something Ohio State will begin to see once the quarterback arrives in January.

“The one thing about Brock that people in Columbus are going to come to understand is he is super, super humble,” Locastro said. “He is a team guy first.”
