Hey, Kansas City Chihuahua owners, Starlight could make your dog a star this summer

Heads up, all you Chihuahua owners in Kansas City.

“Legally Blonde The Musical,” coming in July to Kansas City’s Starlight Theatre, needs a tiny pup to to play Bruiser Woods, the star’s pampered pooch.

Could your dog be a star?

Elvis slept here? Maybe. But now you can at Kansas City area’s new Elvis Retreat House

Here’s what Starlight needs: The perfect Bruiser will be laid-back enough to handle being on stage in front of an audience under bright lights with loud music playing.

It needs to get along with other dogs, and people, and be comfortable being picked up, carried — do Bruiser’s feet ever touch the ground? — and being placed inside a purse, of course, just like in the Reese Witherspoon movie about Elle Woods proving to the world that she’s more than just a blonde stereotype.

Bruiser wannabes must be able to respond to commands, and their owner must be with them at all rehearsals and shows. The show runs July 7-13.

They do not need to know Elle’s trademark Bend and Snap.

But they do need to be a Chihuahua or Chihuahua mix.

Interested pet parents should make a short video showing their dog’s personality and best tricks, and post it to social media using the hashtag @kcstarlight by April 9.

If Starlight likes what it sees, you’ll be invited to a callback at the theater on April 16. For more information, visit kcstarlight.com.

“Kansas City is a dog-loving town, and I can’t wait to see all of the submissions from hopeful pooches. I know the right dog is out there,” Caroline Gibel, Starlight’s director of programming, said in a statement Monday.
