HGTV's Design Star: Next Gen is finally here! The new Wednesday night design competition series pits eight gifted designers, renovators and/or social media brand-builders against each other in intense weekly challenges for the chance at $50,000 cash and their own show on the network.

Allison Holker Boss of So You Think You Can Dance fame hosts while design icons Jonathan Adler and Lauren Makk judge competitors on their work. Plus, some familar HGTV faces (does Jasmine Roth or Jonathan Scott ring a bell?) will appear throughout the season to help guest judge the competition's weekly challenges.

Oh, and did I mention that this show doesn't film on a set, but rather inside a custom-made hub? Yes, there is a lot going on during this competition. Luckily, we're here to help answer all your questions (as well as watch with you!). Here's everything you need to know about HGTV's Design Star: Next Gen.

The Design Star: Next Gen Competitors

Eight up-and-coming creatives from all over the country will strive to win the judges over with their innovative designs and stave off elimination. The contestants are as follows:

Anthony (Tony) Allgeier (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania); Arianna Danielson (Colorado Springs, Colorado); Chris Goddard (Springdale, Arkansas); Carmeon Hamilton (Memphis, Tennessee); Eli Hariton (Denver, Colorado); Peti Lau (Los Angeles, California); Marisa Molinaro (Los Angeles); and Justin Q. Williams (Atlanta, Georgia).

The Design Star: Next Gen Judges and Celebrity Experts

These contestants will have to impress design icon and head judge Jonathan Adler in order to secure a spot in each week's show. Designer Lauren Makk will assist him in making the heavy decisions, as well as a stacked rotating cast of celebrity experts. Here's everyone who will be stepping on as a guest during the series:

The Design Hub

As if Design Star: Next Gen wasn't already exciting enough, wait until you hear about *the hub.* Competitors will face off inside an "isolated, customized design hub" in Southern California built just for the Design Star: Next Gen production. Competitors should be able to find everything they need inside this off-the-grid hideaway, including a design center, a construction workshop, and a fully stocked furniture and styling warehouse supplied by Wayfair. Each competitor will work out of his or her very own design lab, or "house-like space."

The Design Challenges

Each week, the competitors will tackle special design challenges "that are specifically engineered to test the skills required to be a true Design Star," as HGTV notes. What makes a designer a "true Design Star," exactly? We'll have to find out. While the network is keeping the challenges top secret, it did share a few details of what we can expect. Competitors will be tasked with a series of tests, such as delivering ingenious solutions for multi-functional rooms, designing for unique "upcycled" home spaces, and (oh yes!) creating a DIY video for Tik Tok. That's one challenge you didn't see in the original series.
