How high can Joey Gallo's ceiling be if traded?

NBC Sports EDGE's Colin Henderson says now is the time for managers to trade for Texas Rangers slugger Joey Gallo, seeing that he could be a prime trade candidate at the deadline.

Video Transcript

COLIN HENDERSON: Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo had himself a weekend. The 27-year-old slugger belted three homers against Kansas City, knocking in 7 runs to raise his season batting line to .224/.385/.445 with 16 homers, 40 ribbies, and 42 runs scored to go along with six stolen bases enering Monday.

Over Gallo's last eight games, he has five homers and 9 runs batted in to go along with eight walks. In fact, Gallo currently leads the majors in walks, getting a free pass to first in nearly 20% of his plate appearances. This elite eye at the plate gives Gallo a very high floor, even if his batting average will never be above .250, especially in on-base percentage leagues and points leagues.

When he does make contact, he hits the ball hard. He's in the top 6% of the league in barrel percentage while being in the top 16% of the league in average exit velocity. A possible real-life trade candidate this year, now might be a good time to try and acquire Gallo in your fantasy league. If he does get traded to a team with a better supporting cast, he could be in line for a huge uptick in RBIs and runs scored thanks to his elite walking ability.
