High-low dining | Sangria-themed restaurant | 12+ food and dining festivals

It's (still!) hot and muggy outside. While it may feel like the doldrums of summer outside, it's anything but status quo on Louisville's popping dining scene. But before we dive in, in case you missed it, two longtime Louisville restaurants closed at the end of last week: Yang Kee Noodle announced it was shuttering its last Louisville location and SuperChefs closed its Highlands location. It plans to reopen in a TBD spot at a TBD time, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Here's what else is happening this week:

Bandido Taqueria Mexicana: Dining columnist Lennie Omalza says this restaurant, which serves up California-style Mexican street food, is worth a taste for its inventive menu and trendy takes on classic dishes. Don't skip out on the double-wrapped massive Cardinal burrito or its street corn, including one covered in Hot Cheetos, one covered in Doritos, one covered in Takis, and, of course, an original one.

A high-low approach to Paris dining: Ok, ok. So not all of us can just jet off to France when we want, but dining columnist Dana McMahan was lucky enough to add a few days to her most recent writing workshop trip for a short stay in Paris. She gives her top tips for high-low dining in the City of Lights, and her tips and rules can be applied to any city - including Louisville.

12+ food and dining events: Gege Reed has pulled together more than a dozen food and dining (and music!) events taking place between now and mid-November in the Louisville area. From the Summer Beer Fest at the Frazier History Museum to Brew at the Zoo and, of course, Bourbon & Beyond, there's something for everyone. Check out the full list.

Sangria Bar opens: A sangria-focused bar is taking the place of a short-lived healthy bowl eatery near the base of the popular Big Four Bridge in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The Sangria Bar, 125 W. Chestnut St., offers red and white sangrias as well as mimosas, wine, beer and seltzers. Business reporter Matt Glowicki says the secret to its success is that The Sangria Bar makes its fruit-steeped offerings in-house from assorted wines by Louisville-based Old 502 Winery and has partnered with New Albany's Board & You to offer charcuterie boards.
