High number of cancelations and delays continue at Atlanta Airport following holiday

On Monday, airline passengers continued to experience problems at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport as more flights got delayed or canceled.

According to FlightAware.com, over 1,500 flights were canceled that were traveling within, into, or out of the United States Monday.

Airport officials said most flights were canceled due to winter weather concerns and staffing shortages.

Atlanta Airport said on Twitter that water main breaks have not impacted flights.

At the Atlanta airport, FlightAware.com reported the following at 10:30 a.m. Monday:

  • Total delays: 217

  • Total delays within, into, out of the United States today at Hartsfield-Jackson: 217

  • Total cancellations today: 154

  • Total cancellations within, into or out of the United States at Hartsfield-Jackson: 154

Friday hit the record for the highest number of cancellations this year, with more than 20% of all flights scrapped.

Nationwide, more than 2,600 flights were canceled, and over 6,000 were delayed on Saturday.
