High Point man charged with shooting officer

Feb. 22—KERNERSVILLE — A High Point man was charged with shooting and injuring a Kernersville Police Department officer during some type of altercation early Sunday.

The officer, whose name wasn't released, was shot about 3:30 a.m. and was in critical condition late Sunday afternoon.

Quinton Donnell Blocker, 37, was arrested on Oak Grove Church Road in Kernersville about 9:45 a.m., according to police. He is charged with first-degree attempted murder, felonious assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a felon. Bond was set at $1 million secured.

No information about the circumstances of the shooting were released Sunday. The shooting took place at the intersection of Century Place Boulevard and Arbor Hill Road.

Blocker was being held Sunday in the Forsyth County Detention Center in Winston-Salem.
