High school baseball: Centennial surprises No. 1 Bullard in the Central Section playoffs
Another No. 1 seed saw its season come to an end in the Central Division I high school playoffs.
This time it was the Bullard High baseball team.
The top-seeded Knights gave up three runs in the first inning — a three-run home run — and couldn’t recover in a 6-2 loss to No. 9 Centennial in a quarterfinal game on Friday.
On Thursday, the No. 1 Clovis North softball team lost to No. 8 Stockdale 8-7.
Bullard had opportunities to get runs in the game with runners in scoring position, especially with the bases loaded in the fifth inning, but couldn’t mount a significant rally.
The Knights (24-4) had a 21-game winning streak snapped. During that run, Bullard had scored seven or more runs in 16 wins and had been held to under five runs just once, a 1-0 victory against Madera.
