High school baseball roundup: Pines keeps South Windsor's streak alive

Apr. 26—The South Windsor High baseball team has been on a roll lately.

Sam Pines' timely hitting kept that roll going Wednesday afternoon.

The senior's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh gave the Bobcats a 2-1 walk-off win over Enfield in a CCC East game at Rotary Field at Nevers Road Park.

It's the fourth win in a row for South Windsor (6-4) and fifth in its last sixth. The Bobcats won just three games total a season ago.

With the game tied 1-1, Jaden Glatt opened the bottom of the seventh by drawing a walk. The senior then moved to second on a single by sophomore Justin Ditmar before being replaced by pinch runner Shane Jewitt.

Pines came to the plate and knocked in Jewitt with a single to end the game.

Reliver Andrew Goulet earned the win. Teammate and freshman Brayden Edwards pitched the first six innings. He allowed a hit and struck out 10.

Both teams play again Friday. South Windsor hosts Middletown while Enfield (6-3) visits RHAM.

RHAM 12, EAST CATHOLIC 0. At Penders Field, Sean Connolly pitched six innings of three-hit ball in RHAM's CCC East win. He walked one and struck out seven. Landon Bell got the final three outs to complete the shutout.

The Raptors (6-3) scored twice in the third inning, three times in the fifth, and seven times in the seventh. Fayz Baig finished 3-for-5 with a seventh-inning homer and four RBIs. Max Nylen added a pair of hits while Connolly scored three runs and drove in one.

Chris Beaudry had two hits for East Catholic (3-7).

RHAM entertains Enfield Friday, the same day East Catholic visits No. 10 Southington.

MANCHESTER 12, TOLLAND 2. Dennis Flores struck out 10 and walked none in the winning effort as the Red Hawks won a CCC East game that was called after five innings due to the mercy rule at Dodd Stadium in Norwich.

Taber Marineau provided the two-out walk-off single in the bottom of the fifth for Manchester (8-3), which qualified for the Class LL state tournament with the win.

PJ Ortiz and Caleb Camp each had two hits and two stolen bases in the win. Teammate Anthony Osella added three runs scored and two stolen bases.

Christian Steiner and Matthew Haggerty each had a hit for Tolland (4-5).

Manchester visits Newington Thursday while the Eagles travel to Lewis Mills Friday.

ROCKY HILL 12, WINDSOR 2. In Rocky Hill, Ben Centurelli pitched six innings of six-hit ball in the unbeaten Terriers' CCC North victory. He walked none and struck out seven.

It's the second win over a team currently in the GameTimeCT Top 10 for Rocky Hill (10-0) as it took down No. 7 Windsor (6-3). The Terriers handed now-No. 4 Newington its only loss on April 12. Rocky Hill, though, has five wins over CTC schools and another over HMTCA of the CRAL. It topped the also receiving votes of the poll that was released Tuesday.

Tyler Carlstrom and Danny Lin had two hits each for the Terriers, who broke the game open with a seven-run fifth inning. Windsor has lost three of its last four and has given up 45 runs in the losses.

The Warriors host Hall on Friday.

STAFFORD 10, BOLTON 0. Sam Formus pitched a no-hitter as host Stafford won a NCCC game that was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.

The senior lefty struck out 10 and walked six for Stafford (6-4).

Stafford jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first thanks in part to a two-run single by Gavin Stevens and a RBI single from Hayden Iacobucci.

Iacobucci also scored three runs in the win. Teammate Ryan Gilluly added two hits, three runs and four stolen bases for the hosts.

Stafford hosts Rockville Friday, the same day Bolton (3-9) entertains Windsor Locks.

ROCKVILLE 9, SMSA 1. In Hartford, Liam Hodson tossed a two-hitter as the Rams won a NCCC game at Colt Park.

Hodson, a sophomore, didn't allow a hit until the sixth inning for Rockville (7-3). He allowed an unearned run while, struck out four and walked two.

The Rams opened the scoring with three runs in the first, including a RBI triple from Troy Enamait. Rockville added four runs in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Enamait finished with two hits, two RBIs, two runs scored and stolen base. Teammate Peter Glidden added a RBI and scored two runs while Dylan Aafedt and Nolan Finan each had a RBI.
