HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: City View wraps up second straight district title

CITY VIEW 80, HOLLIDAY 66

City View claimed its second straight District 7-3A title Saturday, taking down Holliday, 80-66. The Mustangs (26-4, 9-0) have three games remaining in their quest of an undefeated run through the district.

Holliday (20-8, 7-3) falls into a tie with Bowie for second place in the district. The Eagles and Jackrabbits meet Friday.

The Eagles gave City View its most competitive game of the district schedule, fighting back from a 29-13 deficit after the first period. The Mustangs’ lead was down to 59-53 heading into the fourth quarter.

Jaeden Whitten led the Mustangs with a game-high 23 points, while Chris Whitten and Kendrick Gibson scored 18 each.

Holliday had a strong shooting night, making 10 3-pointers, including six by Austin Jones for all 18 of his team-high points. Nathan Williams made the other four 3’s, finishing with 16 points. Hayden Strealy added 14.

ARCHER City 46, SEYMOUR 45

SEYMOUR – Kameron Moss beat the buzzer Saturday, lifting Archer City to a 46-45 victory against District 9-2A rival Seymour. The result pulls Archer City (15-11, 5-2) into a tie with Seymour (22-7, 5-2) for second place in the district. Archer City holds the head-to-head tiebreaker with a sweep of the Panthers.

Petrolia (17-8, 6-1) sits atop the 9-2A standings, holding off Windthorst for a 55-52 victory Saturday. Petrolia has swept Archer City, but its lone district loss was to Seymour. The Panthers and Pirates meet again Friday in Petrolia.
