BURKBURNETT GIRLS 36, IOWA PARK 35

BURKBURNETT – The Burkburnett Lady Bulldogs are back atop the district standings.

The Lady Bulldogs held off a four-quarter comeback by Iowa Park to claim a 36-35 victory in District 5-4A action Friday at Danny Nix Gym. The win pulls Burk (16-11, 4-1) even with the Lady Hawks (17-9, 4-1) for first place in the district.

It’s the first time since 2018, when the Lady Bulldogs won a fifth straight district title, they have been in first place this deep into district play.

The Lady Bulldogs have won four straight since a district-opening loss to Graham.

On Friday, Kylee Jones paced the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points. They led 14-7 after the first period and 21-15 at halftime. Burk held Iowa Park to two points in the third, taking a 26-17 advantage into the final period.

Iowa Park scored 18 points in the final period but couldn’t over come its early hole, dropping its first district game.
