High school bowling: Middletown sophomore posts 300 game at states

Middletown’s Colby Stoehr made history with the first 300 game at the state bowling championships at the Strike N’ Spare Lanes in Syracuse.

In Friday’s Division I event, teammate Jason Guzman finished 17th overall with a 1,263 pinfall (209.5 average over six games). Stoehr was No. 30, Chase Yanni No. 34, Jace Mazur No. 38 and Christian Yanni No. 41. Middletown placed eighth out of 10 schools.

The Kingston girls placed ninth out of 10 sectional champion teams. Angelina Tati posted the second-highest single game with a 245 in her sixth-and-final game, finishing eighth overall with a 188.17 average. Also for the Tigers, Averyanna Thomas was No. 16, Samantha Schmiderer was No. 30; Rebecca Wells was No. 36, Anisa Johnson was No. 48, Payton Hoffay was No. 51 and Makenna Course was No. 53.

On Sunday, the Saugerties girls placed sixth and the boys placed ninth in the Division 2 (small schools) event. Keiran Hinchey averaged 191.5 over six games to place seventh in the girls event. Aero Ferrendino averaged 202.5 and placed 16th for the boys.

In Saturday’s composite competition, Section 9 placed ninth in both boys and girls. The top two boys were Ike Rothman of Roosevelt (201 average) and Newburgh’s Gage Szymanowicz (199.83). The top two girls were Highland’s Olivia Casabura (177.5) and Marlboro’s Emily Tarsio (166.17).
