High school boys basketball: Power ranking South Bend's top area teams

1. Glenn (15-0)

Games this week: Jan. 25 vs. Mish. Marian, Jan. 28 at SB Adams

The Falcons, ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, cleaned up in the Bi-Country Tournament, beating Culver, 64-46, New Prairie, 70-20 and Triton, 52-35 to extend their undefeated start to the season. In the win against the Trojans, Silas Kaser lead Glenn with 15 points, while Noah Dreibelbeis chipped in 13 and Joe Delinski added 11. Tuesday's home Northern Indiana Conference game against Marian may be one of the biggest games in school history, as the Falcons can put a stranglehold on the league standings.

2. NorthWood (15-1)

Games this week: Jan. 28 vs. Warsaw

NorthWood, ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, extended its current winning streak to seven games with last week's wins against South Bend Saint Joseph (68-49) and Goshen (54-40). The Panthers still hold a one-game lead in the Northern Lakes Conference over Warsaw, who the Panthers will play this week in a crucial game.

3. Marian (12-2)

Games this week: Jan 25 at Glenn, Jan 28 at SB Washington, Jan 29 vs. Tippecanoe Valley

The Knights, ranked No. 3 in 3A, extended their winning streak to four games after its 68-59 win over Penn, which helped them keep pace with Glenn in the NIC race. Marian also picked up a 60-42 win at Culver Academy last week. In the win against the Kingsmen, junior guard Deaglan Sullivan was sensational, scoring 27 points to lead his team.

4. Penn (11-2)

Games this week: Jan. 28 vs. SB Riley, Jan. 29 vs. Goshen

The Kingsmen, ranked No. 8 in 4A, saw its three-game losing streak snapped in Friday's loss at Marian. Penn also picked up wins against Jimtown (62-36) and an overtime win at Northridge (66-57). Markus Burton scored a team-high 17 points in the loss at Marian to pace the Kingsmen.

5. Warsaw (10-5)

Games this week: Jan. 28 at NorthWood, Jan. 29 vs Elkhart

Warsaw, unranked in 4A, rebounded from its 58-56 upset loss at Concord to beat Valparaiso, 57-51 last week. This week's road game at NorthWood could end up deciding who wins the NLC, as the Panthers currently hold a one-game lead over the Tigers in league standings.

6. Mishawaka (8-3)

Games this week: Jan. 25 at Fairfield, Jan. 28 vs Goshen

Mishawaka saw its eight-game winning streak snapped last week after a 59-53 loss to Northridge. The Cavemen also picked up a 52-49 win against South Bend Clay. Entering the week at 2-1 in conference play, Mishawaka has a chance to climb itself back into the NLC race with a big home game against Goshen on Friday.

7. South Bend Washington (12-4)

Games this week: Jan 28 vs. Mish. Marian, Jan. 29 at Crown Point

The Panthers have now won five of their last six games after last week's 60-33 win over Jimtown, to bounce back from their loss at Valparaiso on Jan. 15. Jawan Agnew scored a team-high 19 points for Washington in its win over the Jimmies, while Marcus Northern added 16 and Terrence Reid chipped in 14. This week's home game against Marian will be a big test as the Panthers head into the final month of their season.

8. Goshen (9-4)

Games this week: Jan. 28 at Mishawaka, Jan. 29 at Penn

Goshen has hit a bit of a late-season roadblock, losing its last three games, including last week's 48-45 defeat at Jimtown and a 54-40 loss to NorthWood. Drew Hogan scored a team-high 17 points against NorthWood.

9. South Bend Riley (9-6)

Games this week: Jan. 28 at Penn

The Wildcats extended their winning streak to two games after last week's 66-63 win at South Bend Clay. Isaiah Robinson and Damarion Spann each scored 18 points for Riley in the win, while Jaylen Barbara added 10 points.

10. South Bend Saint Joseph (7-6)

Games this week: Jan. 28 vs. New Prairie

The Indians finally broke their four-game losing streak with last week's 79-65 win at Elkhart. Chase Konieczny and Cole Hatkevich each scored 19 points to lead Saint Joseph, while Jayce Lee added 16 and Jack Quinn chipped in 11.
