High school boys golf: 5A region recaps, Cyprus, Viewmont, Olympus, Timpview claim region championships

The final region tournaments of the 5A high school boys golf regular season are now complete, with attention now shifting to the 5A state tournament next Monday and Tuesday at Fox Hollow Golf Course.

The first round gets underway Monday, with the final round on Tuesday.

Cyprus, Viewmont, Olympus and Timpview won their respective region titles this season. Defending state champion Skyline finished third in Region 6 this year behind Olympus and East. It was runner-up in region a year ago and still won the state title, magic it hopes to replicate next week.

The four individual region medalists were Taylorsville’s Lincoln Peterson, Bonneville’s Parker Bunn, Skyline’s Jackson Shelley and Salem Hill’s Cooper Nelson. Shelley had the lowest region scoring average in 5A at 66.6, and he’s also the individual state champ.
