High school boys golf: Corner Canyon leads 6A state tournament by 7 strokes, 5-time champ Lone Peak a distant 4th
Corner Canyon is in the driver’s seat for the 6A state championship after a great opening day of golf at the Old Mill Golf Course on Monday.
The Chargers shot a 7-under 277 team score, and lead Herriman by seven strokes after the Mustangs shot an even-par 284.
Five-time state champ Lone Peak is 15 strokes back after shooting a 292 and would need a huge Day 2 performance on Tuesday to overcome its former region foes.
Herriman’s Elliott Bond leads the individual race after shooting a 4-under 67, but 11 golfers are within four strokes of Bond. Among them is defending state champ Kihei Akina of Lone Peak, who shot a 2-under.
Corner Canyon’s Krew Labrum and Bowen Mauss and then Riverton’s Jaxon Erickson are all tied for second after shooting 68s in the first round.
