High School Football: Jacob Bible hired as new coach/athletic director at Rockport-Fulton

ROCKPORT — Midlothian Heritage defensive coordinator Jacob Bible was hired as the new head football coach and athletic director at Rockport-Fulton High School on Monday during a special board of trustees meeting.

Bible spent the last season coaching at Heritage, but also had head coaching stops in Kermit and Venus as well as being an assistant in Aledo. Bible is a native of Moore, Oklahoma. Bible was one of nearly 100 applicants for the job, which was narrowed down to 10 coaches who were interviewed, and was among two finalists for the position.

Bible has a combined record of 11-21 as a head coach, including a 10-12 record with two playoff appearances in two seasons in Kermit and a 1-9 mark in Venus.

"I'm very picky for jobs I even look into, with (my) kids at their age going into middle school and high school," Bible said after the board meeting. "Being at a pretty good spot, (defensive coordinator) at Midlothian Heritage, I was in no rush to get out there. I was just looking at good spots of where can I raise my family. I applied for the position, got the interview and getting to know the people, just kind of hook, line and sinker."

Bible will replace Jay Seibert, who took the same job in Sweeney earlier this month after serving as head coach in Rockport-Fulton for nine seasons. Rockport-Fulton Superintendent Joshua Garcia said the district used a search firm — Solid Oak Leadership — to help in the hiring process.

Garcia said the search firm helped to narrow down the field of applicants, and then a committee of eight people from the district, including board members, was part of the interview process.

Bible said one of the things that attracted him to the position was the stability of the program. The Pirates made the playoffs in eight of Seibert's nine seasons as head coach.

"Coach Seibert had been here for nine seasons, so there is longevity for that position," Bible said. "That's what I was really looking for. That there's support. That there's support behind the AD and things that he's trying to accomplish and they are going to give him the time to do that."

Salary details were not disclosed for the position. Bible said he hopes to start March 6.
