6A Playoffs

Corner Canyon 52, Layton 0

Top seed Corner Canyon took care of business by shutting out the visiting No. 17 seed Layton in a dominant 6A second round victory. Isaac WIlson threw four touchdown passes while six different Chargers found their way into the endzone—including Bryton Brady who did so twice. The Chargers will look to continue their journey back to the state title game when they host Lone Peak in the quarterfinals.

Davis 17, Weber 13

Despite trailing 7-0 at the half, the Darts were able to rally and pick up a tough playoff win over a region rival. Owen Talbot and Kash Gates each scored early in the third quarter to quickly flip the score in their favor. Crew Cacciacarne would throw his second touchdown of the game, a 23-yard pass to Salesi Moa, but the ensuing PAT was unsuccessful leaving Weber one-point short. Finn Garff added a field goal in the fourth while the Davis defense clinched victory. The 10-1 Darts will travel to take on Lehi in the quarterfinals where they will try to avenge their season opening loss to the Pioneers.

Skyridge 49, Farmington 14

Skyridge’s playoff run started with a dominant offensive performance against the Phoenix. The Falcons were able to score two touchdown in the final three periods after grabbing a 7-0 lead early. Trevan McClellan and Brett Buhler each scored two touchdowns while Jackson Stevens threw for three and had one on the ground. The Falcons will continue their title defense by hosting Pleasant Grove in next week’s quarterfinals.

Pleasant Grove 21, Herriman 17

Pleasant Grove edged out the Mustangs in a close playoff battle that saw a lead change in every quarter. The Vikings found themselves down seven points early, but Carson Rasmussen had a passing touchdown followed by one on the ground to give his team the lead. The Mustangs responded when Frederick Ta’ai and Noah Malloy connected from 35-yards out, tying the game at the break. The second half saw a defensive battle, with Herriman striking first. Imaj Hagan’s short field goal gave the Mustangs the lead for over 12 minutes before Rasmussen’s third touchdown of the night boosted the score to 21-17 in favor of the Vikings. After defensive stops, Pleasant Grove punched their ticket to Skyridge next week.

Bingham 29, Syracuse 21

Bingham secured a tough home playoff victory with a dominant goal line performance from Triston Brimhall. The Miners led by one at halftime, but the third quarter saw Brimhall add his second and third short touchdown runs to the scoreboard, giving Bingham a 16-point lead heading into the final period. Syracuse cut the lead in half with 10:25 to go when Jack Hopkins tossed a touchdown to Shaun Blanton, but the Titans could never find the game-tying touchdown. Bingham will take on American Fork in the quarterfinals, trying to rebound from a 28-0 to the Cavemen back in September.

American Fork 41, Westlake 13

Top-seeded American Fork jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead and never looked back as they secured their ticket to the quarterfinals of the 6A State Tournament. Dylan Story and Davis Andrews connected on two long touchdown passes. Ezra Heiner hauled in a 32-yard touchdown for the Thunder in the middle of the third quarter. American Fork will host Bingham in their next playoff game.

Lone Peak 14, Mountain Ridge 3

Lone Peak got revenge from an earlier loss as they took down Mountain Ridge on the road. The first meeting saw the Knights let up 31 points, but tonight the defense allowed just three points—as Brody Laga connected on a 56-yard field goal to end the first half. Lone Peak’s offense scored two touchdowns, Brooks Wilde scored from one yard out with 25 seconds left in the second quarter. Jackson Blake and Trey Robinson connected on a 35-yard score early in the third quarter. Lone Peak will travel to Corner Canyon in the quarterfinals next week.

Lehi 31, Riverton 0

Jett Niu threw three touchdowns passes, two to Cooper Justice and one to Kolose Latu as the Pioneers shutout the visiting Silverwolves. Gavin Fenn added a 55-yard field goal while Boston Fabrizion closed things out with a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown. The Pioneers move into the quarterfinals where they will host the Davis Darts.


5A Playoffs

Olympus 35, West Jordan 6

In the 5A second round, fifth-seeded Olympus dominated 12th-seeded West Jordan, finishing with a comfortable 35-6 victory. Titans’ QB Chase Moseley connected on multiple touchdown passes, including a 7-yard TD pass to Nash Taylor in the first quarter to open the scoring. Olympus continued to build its lead with two more touchdown passes thrown by Moseley in the second quarter to Ty Seagle and Nic Brown respectively. With the Titans leading 21-0 at the half, Mosely threw his fourth TD pass midway through the third quarter again to Nash Taylor, and then Luke Bryant wrapped up the scoring the for the Titans on a 63-yard interception return late in the third. Brown had a strong day on the ground as well as he rushed for 122 yards. Olympus now advances to play fourth-seeded Box Elder in the quarterfinals on Nov. 3.

Roy 40, Bonneville 0

After Roy beat Bonneville by two touchdowns in region, the rematch in the 5A second round the makings of a possible close game. It wasn’t. No. 3 seed Roy demonstrated its superiority over No. 14 seed Bonneville, cruising to an emphatic 40-0 victory. From the outset, Roy dominated, ignited by Corben Schuffenhauer’s 38-yard fumble recovery touchdown in the first quarter. The Royals didn’t let up, with DaeQwan Snider, Joseph Cariaga III and Dru Gardner all contributing touchdowns while their defense left Bonneville scoreless. This lopsided result propels the Royals into the quarterfinals where they are slated to face No. 11 seed Alta on Nov. 3.

Bountiful 42, Granger 0

In a surprisingly lopsided 5A second round game, No. 10 seed Bountiful trounced No. 7 Granger, 42-0. The visiting Redhawks did the damage in the second quarter as Siaki Fekitoa scored on a pair of touchdown runs and then Faletau Satuala hauled in a 21-yard TD reception from Emerson Geilman to stretch the lead to 28-0 by halftime. Fekitoa scored again in the third quarter, which was more than enough scoring for Bountiful’s stingy defense, which recorded its first shutout of the season. The Redhawks now move on to the quarterfinals, where they’ll be challenged by No. 2 seed Springville on Nov. 3.

Box Elder 28, Maple Mountain 21

In a tightly-contested 5A second round game, No. 4 Box Elder Bees triumphed over upset-minded No. 13 Maple Mountain, 28-21. Although Maple Mountain rallied to tie the game 21-21 with 6:25 remaining on a Nic Hofheins 2-yard run to tie the game 21-21, Box Elder regained the lead on Damon Rodriguez’s 18-yard touchdown run with 2:16 left in the fourth quarter. The game was significantly shaped by Box Elder’s quarterback, Ryan Griffin, who threw three touchdown passes in the first half. Box Elder now advances to the quarterfinals to face No. 5 Olympus on Nov. 3.

Springville 24, East 0

The No. 2 seed Springville Red Devils showed off its defensive toughness against No. 18 seed East in the 5A second round, cruising to a 24-0 win to advance to the quarterfinals. The Red Devils’ stout defensive line proved to be a difference-maker, forcing four turnovers, including two interceptions by Reid Deede. On offense, Springville was bolstered by a solid performance from Tevita Valeti, who rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns, while Lisiate Valeti added another score in the fourth quarter. The Red Devils now advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 10 seed Bountiful on Nov. 3.

Brighton 44, Woods Cross 7

In the second round of the 5A state tournament, No. 8 seed Brighton dominated No. 9 Woods Cross, 44-7. Brighton established an early lead, highlighted by a 50-yard run from Mason Haertel in the second quarter. By halftime, Brighton had amassed an insurmountable 24-0 lead. Jack Johnson tossed three touchdown passes in the win for the Bengals, one each to Mason Haertel, Beau LaFleur and Donovan Wismer as Brighton extended its lead to 37-0 heading into the fourth quarter. Brighton now looks ahead to competing against top-seeded Timpview in the 5A quarterfinals on Nov. 3.

Timpview 35, Orem 28

In the second-round rivalry clash in the 5A playoffs, No. 1 Timpview Thunderbirds held off No. 17 Orem Tigers, 35-28, after leading 28-7 at the half. The Thunderbirds got off to a strong start, with two touchdowns in first quarter including a 42-yard pass from Helamn Casuga to Kennan Pula. The Tigers fought back in the third quarter with 14 straight points on a pair of TD passes from Lance Reynolds, including an 85-yarder to Kaue Akana, but Timpview managed to go back in front by two scores on a 1-yard run by Quezon Villa iat the 6:20 mark of the fourth quarter. Orem’s Mack Hixson second TD run late in the fourth quarter gave underdog Orem, but it ultimately wasn’t enough to overcome Casuga’s four TD passes. Timpview now advances to square off against No.8 Brighton in the quarterfinals on Nov. 3.

Alta 36, West 34

In a thrilling quadruple-overtime 5A second round game, the 11th-seeded Alta Hawks edged outlasted No. 6 seed West, 36-34, getting revenge after losing to West by 26 points in the regular season. Slade Taylor sealed the win for the Hawks in the fourth overtime as he caught the two-point conversion pass from Matt McKea. Alta is set to face third-seeded Roy in the quarterfinals on Nov. 3. Alta led 17-7 early in the third quarter, but a pair of third-quarter TD passes from Isaiah SueSue over the final six minutes of the third gave the home Panthers the 30-17 lead. Coleman Fisher’s 30-yard field goal tied the game with 8:49 left, forcing overtime. Both teams scored TDs on their first two possessions in overtime, but beginning in the third overtime the new UHSAA rules call for just two-point conversions. Neither team scored in the third overtime, but Taylor did in the fourth OT to book Alta’s spot in the quarterfinals.


4A Playoffs

Desert Hills 49, Snow Canyon 33

No. 10 seed Desert Hills upset No. 7 seed Snow Canyon 49-33 in the second round of the 4A playoffs, with Thunder’s player Tytan Mason scoring six touchdowns. In the high-scoring game, Mason showed impressive agility with a 75-yard and a 53-yard run in the second quarter, later capped by a breathtaking 72-yard pass in the fourth from Gerrit Grondel. Talan Kelly strived hard for the Warriors with two touchdown runs and three passing touchdowns, but the Thunder’s aggressive offense held the upper hand, securing their win. Desert Hills will face No. 2 seed Crimson Cliffs in the quarterfinals on Nov. 3.

Payson 27, Provo 21

In a thrilling comeback, No. 14 seed Payson overcame a 14-point deficit to upset No. 3 seed Provo 27-21 in the second round of the 4A playoffs. The Lions started their rally with an 8-yard run by Cooper Swasey, setting the stage for their defensive standouts Dylan Wall and Lincoln Ewell who scored back-to-back touchdowns on 35 and 40-yard fumble recoveries, respectively. Despite earlier touchdowns from Bulldogs’ players Fiti Tuilevuka, Kyle Larsen, and Tagai Lesa, Provo remained scoreless in the crucial fourth quarter, leading to their downfall. Payson will play against No. 6 seed Ridgeline in the quarterfinals on Nov. 3.

Timpanogos 34, Mountain Crest 18

No. 5 seed Timpanogos fended off the No. 12 seed Mountain Crest, securing a 34-18 victory to advance to the 4A quarterfinals. Luke Livingston, Gabriel Graf, and Josh Graf all scored receiving touchdowns for Timpanogos, while Easton Bretzing added two scores on the ground. Though trailing, Mustangs’ Casey Crofts found target Will DeKorver twice in the fourth quarter, but their effort fell short. Up next for the Timberwolves is No. 4 seed Park City.

Crimson Cliffs 56, Cedar City 0

In their solid 56-0 victory over No. 15 seed Cedar City, No. 2 seed Crimson Cliffs demonstrated its dominance on both offense and defense. The Mustangs’ scoring started with a 3-yard run by Mason Topalian, after which Steele Barben took over the game, totaling four touchdowns through the air and one on the ground. The Crimson Cliffs’ defense that allowed the least amount of points in all of 4A this season, proved again why it is so dominant with a shutout of the Reds. Crimson Cliffs will face No. 10 seed Desert Hills in the 4A quarterfinals on Nov. 3.

Ridgeline 52, Stansbury 21

No. 6 seed Ridgeline showed its dominance with a 52-21 rout of No. 11 seed Stansbury in the second round of the 4A playoffs. A strong offensive performance was highlighted by three touchdown passes from Nate Dahle, two in the second quarter and one in the third, while Crosby West and Krew Jones added rushing scores. Bracken Mathews of the Stallions led an impressive 92-yard run in the second quarter, but they were unable to close the wide gap. Ridgeline will face No. 14 seed Payson in the quarterfinals.

Green Canyon 12, Salem Hills 3

No. 8 seed Green Canyon overcame a halftime deficit to secure a 12-3 victory against No. 9 seed Salem Hills in the second round of the 4A playoffs. Salem Hills had taken the lead just before halftime with a 24-yard field goal by Ashton Hansen. However, in the third quarter Dewey Egan turn the tide for Green Canyon with a remarkable 99-yard kick return, followed by a 50-yard touchdown reception from Payton Wilson, marking the only touchdowns of a low-scoring contest. Green Canyon will have its hands full in the quarterfinals against No. 1 seed Sky View.

Park City 36, Dixie 14

No. 4 seed Park City outpaced the No. 13 seed Dixie 36-14 in the 4A second round, replicating their earlier season victory. Key moments included two rushing touchdowns in the final quarter by the Miners. For the Flyers, quarterback Wyatt Truman stood out with both of their scores, a 30-yard run in the first quarter, and a 1-yard dash in the final quarter. The Miners’ balanced offense, featuring Charles Cusimano and Tyler Montzingo’s receiving touchdowns in the second and third quarters respectively, contributed significantly to the victory. Park City will face No. 5 seed Timpanogos in the quarterfinal on Nov. 3.

Sky View 56, Bear River 21

Undefeated No. 1 seed Sky View flexed its muscles to deliver a crushing 56-21 blow to the Bear River Bears. The Bobcats came out strong with Brevin Egbert delivering a 68-yard run in the first quarter. Egbert, the standout player, contributed five touchdowns in total, pressuring the Bears throughout the game. Despite touchdowns from Talon Marble and Owen Olsen, the Bears’ efforts were insufficient to close the high-scoring gap, underscoring Sky View’s dominance this season. Sky View will now face No. 8 seed Green Canyon in the 4A quarterfinals on Nov. 3.


3A Playoffs

Canyon View 21, Grantsville 13

Canyon View quick start on both sides of the ball gave them a controlling 21-point halftime lead. Lincoln Rushton, Traie Buhler, and Deegan Davies all scored touchdowns for the Falcons with Jaxon Jensen throwing the final two. After the half, Grantsville came out and scored in under 60 seconds, cutting the deficit to just 14. Jayden Atkinson would score his second touchdown of the game early in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to eight, but the Cowboys never found their third touchdown as Canyon View held on for the victory despite not scoring in the second half.

Manti 47, Juab 10

Manti scored the games first seven touchdowns as they jumped out to a 47-3 lead. Maison Starkweather threw touchdowns for all seven scores, with three going to Reggie Frischknecht. Hunter Stevens added two while Stone Mortensen and Isaac Crowther added one each. Juab’s 10 points came from a last second field goal in the first and they finally found the endzone with two minutes remaining on a ground score from Ryan Robinson.

Richfield 35, Ogden 0

Richfield scored three of their five touchdowns in the first quarter as they picked up a shutout win in the 3A Quarterfinals of the State Tournament. Beck Giblette had two goal line touchdowns while Reggie Hafen added two from further out. Slate Reitz scored the final one early in the third quarter. The Wildcats will look to continue their undefeated season at Zions Bank Stadium in the semifinals, where they will take on the Canyon View Falcons.

Morgan 49, Union 7

Morgan defeated Union by a score of seven touchdowns to one in their quarterfinal matchup. The Trojans were able to score four touchdowns in the first quarter to grab a forceful lead. Zak Sargent and Drew Korth each had seven yard runs. Beck Sheffield scored the next two touchdowns, the first a 39-yard throw to Lincoln Gilson. Sheffield followed it up with an 18-yard touchdown reception of his own. Will Gamble scored for the Cougars. Morgan will take on Manti next Saturday at Zions Bank Stadium in the semifinals.


2A Playoffs

San Juan 68, Judge Memorial 0

Two-time state champion San Juan High School, seeded No. 1, began its march towards a potential “3-peat” with a overwhelming 68-0 win over No. 8 Judge Memorial in the 2A quarterfinals on Friday. Parker Snyder threw five touchdowns in the win over the Broncos to five different receivers, with Zack Conway adding a pair of rushing TDs as well. Josiah LaPalmer even got in on the scoring defensively with a 45-yard interception in the second quarter as San Juan built a 54-0 halftime lead. San Juan now advances to play against No. 5 seed Summit Academy in the semifinals at Zions Bank Stadium on Nov. 4.

South Summit 48, Delta 7

No. 2 seed South Summit emphatically beat No. 7 Delta in the 2A quarterfinals, delivering a dominant 48-7 victory. The Wildcats’ offense was led by Trey Stembridge, who scored on a touchdown run in all four quarters to spearhead the victory. Blake Osguthorpe and Bracken Lassche chipped in with TD runs of their own in the second quarter as the Wildcats built a 27-0 halftime lead. With this sizable victory, South Summit now looks forward to a semifinal showdown against No. 3 Layton Christian.

Summit Academy 45, Emery 44

Owen Egler blocked an extra point in the first overtime, and then teammate Khai Matagi scored on a 25-yard TD run on Summit Academy’s overtime possession, with Josiah Arellano’s extra point sealing the win over No. 5 seed Summit Academy as it edged No. 4 seed Emery in the 2A first round. Bronson Dixon rushed for three touchdowns and also caught another TD pass from Kyan Anderson to lead the way offensively for the Bears. Summit Academy led 24-21 heading into the fourth quarter, but the teams caught fire in the final quarter, combining to score 31 points. Emery tied the game with 1:29 remaining in the game as Hayden Abrams recovered a fumble on a muffed punt attempt by Summit Academy and returned it 10 yards for tying score. After this seesaw game, Summit Academy now advances to the semifinals against No. 1 San Juan.

Layton Christian 51, Providence Hall 0

No. 3 seed Layton Christian dominated No. 6 Providence Hall with a decisive 51-0 victory in the 2A quarterfinals on Friday. Layton Christian’s offense was spearheaded by Trevor Halalilio, who scored on four rushing touchdowns, all in the first half as the Eagles built a 42-0 halftime lead. Additionally, Layton Christian’s Marcus Miles also added a pair of touchdown runs. The shutout was the second of the season for Layton Christian, which will now proceed to the semifinals against No. 2 South Summit.


1A Playoffs

Duchesne 16, Milford 9

No. 2 seed Duchesne survived a tense victory over No. 7 seed Milford with a 16-9 scoreline. The Eagles came on strong in the first quarter, with Parker Crum finding the end zone on the ground and later completing a 31-yard touchdown pass to Brody Jacobs. The Tigers rebounded in the second half, with Colton Barnes scoring in the third quarter and a field goal from Griffin Walker in the fourth. However, their comeback efforts fell short, leaving the Eagles to claim a low scoring, highly defensive game. Duchesne will face off against No. 3 seed Enterprise in the semifinal on Nov. 3.

Beaver 42, Gunnison Valley 0

No. 1 seed Beaver left no doubt about its superiority in its dominant quarterfinal victory over No. 8 seed Gunnison Valley. Tate Gale got the ball rolling for the Beavers with a 1-yard run in the first quarter, and Bodie Wheatley made significant contributions with a 4-yard run and two touchdown passes for 69 yards and 16 yards. Beaver will play in the 1A semifinal against No. 4 seed Kanab on Nov. 3.

Enterprise 35, North Summit 6

No. 3 seed Enterprise crushed No. 6 seed North Summit 35-6 in the 1A quarterfinals. The Wolves established an early lead, with three touchdowns from Kyron Bracken in the first half, showcasing their strong offense. Despite a late-game score from Austin Aven in the fourth quarter, the Braves were unable to mount a significant comeback. Enterprise continues its quest for the 1A state title in the semifinal against No. 2 seed Duchesne on Nov. 3.

Kanab 14, Millard 13

In a thrilling 1A quarterfinal, No. 4 seed Kanab edged out No. 5 seed Millard with a 14-13 victory. The Cowboys initially played catch-up after a 34-yard pass from Luke DeGraffenried to Morgan Tingey put the Eagles ahead in the second quarter. However, the tables turned in favor of the Cowboys after Maddix Baird caught an 80-yard pass from Maddex Bone for a touchdown in the third quarter, giving them a slim lead. The Eagles’ touchdown by Sam Rasmussen and subsequent failed two-point conversion late in the fourth quarter wasn’t enough to overturn the Cowboys’ advantage, resulting in a close finish. Kanab will face off against No. 1 seed Beaver in the semifinal on Nov. 3.
