Turlock will have to work its way back up the rankings. After going 0-5 in its nonleague games, the Bulldogs dropped to the last spot in the Top 10 this week. Though they have shown they can make games competitive, they must finish games come league time. Their first chance to climb is Thursday, Sept. 28, in their CCAL opener against No. 6 Gregori.

The Jaguars have continued to win and climb in our rankings. Running back Michael Marsden led the Jaguars to a 4-1 nonleague record. They moved up after yet another win and because Oakdale lost.

The Mustangs lost to No. 2 Escalon, which bounced back from a 21-point loss to California with a 20-point win Friday night. Sam Jimenez had three touchdown receptions and a pick on defense. Donovan Rozevink tossed five touchdown passes.

Patterson is the last unbeaten team in the area’s Top 10. The Tigers closed out nonleague play with a win over Menlo-Atherton on Sept. 9, had a bye last week and play their first Central California Conference game this week against El Capitan.

Downey’s injuries caught up with it last week. Quarterback Carson Lamb sat with a hurt throwing hand, backup quarterback Joseph Ramirez played through the pain after separating his shoulder against Hughson in Week 3 and they played without their starting running back. Thankfully for them, coach Jeremy Plaa got word Monday that Lamb was cleared and they have a bye this week to get healthy before CCAL play.

The area’s top team remains Central Catholic. The Raiders were struggling with injuries heading into last week’s bye but reinforcements are in this week. Transfers Manasse Itete, Darius Brown and Anthony Todd return. They host Pleasant Valley of the Northern Section.
