High school football roundup: Barnesville, Chatfield advance to Class 2A title game

Chatfield 27, Eden Valley Watkins 12
Chatfield is one game away from defending its Class 2A state championship after the Gophers scored 15 points in the fourth quarter Friday at U.S. Bank Stadium to move past Eden Valley Watkins.
Sam Backer ran for 150 yards and two scores for Chatfield (12-0), while also passing for a pair of touchdowns. His two-yard scoring strike to Luke Carrier broke a 12-12 tie with 8 minutes, 40 seconds to play in regulation. Backer then plunged in from a yard out for the game-icing score with 40 seconds remaining.
Nolan Geislinger ran 23 times for 73 yards and a score for Eden Valley Watkins (11-1).
Barnesville 41, Jackson County Central 12
John Roller ran 13 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns to lead Barnesville into the Class 2A title game. Barnesville has played in three Prep Bowls but is still seeking the program’s first title.
Four different Trojans players scored rushing touchdowns Friday. Ben Dahlin returned a kickoff 89 yards for a score for Jackson County Central (12-1).
Chatfield and Barnesville will square off for the Class 2A title at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 back in downtown Minneapolis.
