HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Bradford blanks Tocoi Creek, Atlantic's hopes dashed

Tocoi Creek's prolific rushing attack proved no match for Bradford's dominant defense.

Jeremiah McKenzie and Manny Covey rushed for two touchdowns apiece as Bradford blanked the Toros 27-0. The Tornadoes (7-0, 2-0) have limited opponents to seven total points through seven games.

Tocoi Creek (5-3, 0-2) can still contend for its first regional playoff spot, facing Keystone Heights on Oct. 28 after its bye week.

Crescent City 35, Atlantic 28

Atlantic's playoff hopes were almost certainly dashed Friday with a district loss at Crescent City.

Ray Davis scored the go-ahead touchdown with 38 seconds left to lift the Raiders (4-3, 2-0) to a crucial District 8-2S win.

John Killingsworth returned from an injury suffered in Monday's win over Lake Weir and scored one touchdown, while Kwasie Kwaku had the other three for the Sharks (2-6).

Atlantic enters its bye week before its district finale with Taylor.

Seminole 27, DeLand 10

Led by backup quarterback David Parks, in his first career start, Seminole (6-1) scored 20 second-half points to pull away from DeLand in the "Battle of the Bridge."

DeLand (3-3) begins a crucial three-game stretch against District 9-4S opponents next Friday with a home game against University.

Menendez 22, Clay 18

Nate Carr's 70-yard touchdown reception from Bryce Petellat late in the fourth quarter helped Menendez (4-4, 2-1) keep its playoff hopes alive with a victory at Clay (2-5, 1-1).

Tyshawn Thames clinched the win with a sack and Frankie Morabito picked off a pass. Christian Coleman and Cason Blanco ran for Menendez TDs.

New Smyrna Beach 29, Sebastian River 7

New Smyrna Beach (4-2) shook off a disappointing home loss earlier in the week to cruise past Sebastian River.

Malakai Hudson ran 14 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns, and Bryant Siravo caught eight passes for 108 yards.

The 'Cudas host Spruce Creek in their district opener next Friday.

Seabreeze 42, Pine Ridge 0

Seabreeze (2-4, 1-0) handed Pine Ridge (0-7, 0-1) its fifth shutout loss of the season and grabbed a share of first place in District 9-3S.

Both teams face Deltona next week; Seabreeze hosts the Wolves in a Monday night makeup game, and Pine Ridge takes part in the "Battle of the Boulevard" on Friday.

Holy Trinity Episcopal 40, Father Lopez 12

Brogan McNab rushed for three touchdowns, including a 60-yarder early in the fourth quarter, as Holy Trinity (3-2, 1-0) moved into first place in District 4-1S.

Jon Brandt caught both Father Lopez touchdowns, one apiece from William Tucker and La'Darius Simmons, in the fourth quarter.

Lake Weir 24, Taylor 17

Taylor (1-6, 0-1) scored its most points since the opening week of the season, but came up a touchdown short in a District 8-2S battle against Lake Weir.

Lake Weir's victory prevented Crescent City from mathematically clinching the title.

Taylor ends the season with three straight road games, beginning at Keystone Heights next Friday.

Legacy Charter 37, Halifax 14

Legacy picked up its second win this fall over a Volusia County opponent, handling visiting Halifax.

Brandon McMillian returned a blocked punt for a 40-yard touchdown, and Omar Calhoun added an 82-yard TD run in the loss for the Knights (2-5), who next head to Interlachen.

P.K. Yonge 44, St. Joseph 16

St. Joseph (2-5, 0-2) could not pull off its second straight home win over an opponent from Gainesville, falling to district rival P.K. Yonge.

The Flashes head north next Friday to face Stanton.

Trinity Prep 35, Trinity Christian 0

Trinity Prep rolled to its first win of the fall, securing a running-clock margin against Trinity Christian (1-5).

The FHSAA-independent Eagles, which lost a fourth straight contest, draw a difficult regular season finale at Mount Dora Christian.

Matanzas 22, Gainesville 14

Jackson Lundahl threw for 106 yards and two touchdowns, and Eddy Luna sealed victory Thursday night with an interception on Gainesville's final drive as the Pirates (3-4, 1-1) kept their wild card hopes alive.

Landon Grover kicked three field goals for Matanzas, including a pair of 42-yarders. Herby Tima made four solo tackles and added 2½ tackles for loss.

Matanzas travels to Clay next Friday for a crucial District 4-3S contest next week.

Gainesville dropped to 0-8 on the season.
