High school football roundup: Mishawaka finishes strong, NorthWood claims NLC title

Chaz Hardy scored three touchdowns while Novell Miller added two as Mishawaka cruised to a 54-21 win over Northern Lakes Conference foe Wawasee Friday night at Syracuse.

Cavemen quarterback Brady Fisher was 7 of 9 passing for 113 yards and a touchdown while adding 83 yards rushing on nine carries. Miller led all rushers with 128 yards on 21 carries followed by Hardy with 87 on 5.

Mishawaka improves to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the NLC, its only loss coming two weeks ago to NLC champ NorthWood. Wawasee falls to 1-8, 1-6.

Concord 52, Plymouth 0

The Minutemen scored 38 points in the first half to set the tone early against winless Plymouth. Concord improves to 4-5 overall and 3-4 in the NLC and will visit Goshen in the first round of the 5A sectional Oct. 28. Plymouth will host South Bend Saint Joseph Friday in its 4A sectional opener.

Warsaw 35, Northridge 21

Warsaw's German Flores-Ortega scored five rushing touchdowns of 11, 1, 1, 2 and 3 yards as the Tigers pulled away from Northridge in the second half.

The Raiders (5-4, 4-3 NLC) led 13-7 in the first half after Qade Carrington's 27-yard touchdown pass to Jethro Hochstetler an a pair of field goals by Dylan Ritchie. Carrington hit Kade Sainz for a 24-yard TD to tie the game 21-21 heading into the fourth.

That's when Flores-Ortega put the game away with a couple TD plunges as Warsaw improves to 7-2, 5-2 NLC. The 6A Tigers are off next week while the Raiders travel to South Bend Riley Friday for the 4A sectional opener.

NorthWood 42, Goshen 6

Owen Roeder threw four touchdown passes, including a 64-yarder to JJ Payne as 4A No. 3 NorthWood wrapped up the Northern Lakes Conference crown with the win over Goshen.

Roeder finished 19 of 30 passing for 289 yards and an interceptions. The Panthers, who scored all their points in the first half, completed a perfect regular season at 9-0. It's their first NLC title since 2018.

NorthWood opens sectional play next week at South Bend Washington. Goshen (2-7) will play Concord, Oct. 28.

Bremen 40, South Bend Clay 0

Bremen scored all of its points in the first half to overwhelm visiting South Bend Clay and improve to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the Northern Indiana Conference.

The 2A Lions host Wheeler Friday in their sectional opener. Winless 3A Clay will host Jimtown.

Glenn 36, South Bend Washington 0

Glenn improves to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in the NIC and will host Fairfield in Friday's 3A sectional opener. South Bend Washington fall to 2-7, 1-4 NIC and hosts 4A No. 3 NorthWood Friday.

LaVille 42, Culver 0

The 2A No. 3 Lancers completed their perfect regular season while wrapping up the Hoosier North title. LaVille (9-0, 7-0) will open sectional play Friday by hosting Whiting.

Triton 42, Winamac 6

Triton's Anthony Schuh ran 13 for 77 yards on his way to breaking the school record for rushing yards in a single season at 1,512 heading into next week's playoffs.

The Trojans led 28-6 at halftime and are 6-3 on the season. Winamac falls to 2-7.
