High school football roundup: Seeded last in section, Tartan will play for state berth

Oct. 31—Tartan 42, Highland Park 18: Tartan (3-7) was seeded seventh out of seven teams in Class 5A, Section 4. Now, the Titans will play for the section title.

Jessie Hawkins ran for a pair of scores and Ethan Kaemmer threw for three touchdowns for the Tartan, which got out to a 21-0 lead in the third quarter.

Shea Landa ran for a touchdown and threw for two more for the third-seeded Scots (3-7). Tartan will face top-seeded Mahtomedi in the section final.

Mahtomedi 42, Cretin-Derham Hall 18: Jordan Hull ran for a pair of touchdowns, while Charles Brandt threw for a touchdown and ran for another as the top-seeded Zephyrs (7-2) cruised into the Class 5A, Section 4 final.

Miles Bollinger threw three touchdown passes for the fifth-seeded Raiders (3-7).

St. Thomas Academy 49, Apple Valley 0: The top-seeded Cadets (9-0) ran all over the Eagles (2-8) to reach the Class 5A, Section 3 final.

Love Adebayo and Zach Santrizos each had a pair of rushing touchdowns for St. Thomas Academy. The Cadets beat Apple Valley by the identical score on Oct. 15, two of the three shutouts the St. Thomas Academy defense has pitched this season.

Hill-Murray 15, South St. Paul 12, OT: JP Yocum hit a pair of field goals to send the second-seeded Pioneers (5-4) to the Class 4A, Section 3 final.

Leading 12-7 late in regulation, South St. Paul took a safety to shrink its lead to 12-9. Hill-Murray then took the ensuing kickoff down to the Packers' 20-yard-line. Yocum hit the game-tying field goal with mere seconds to play.

Then, in overtime, it was Yocum who struck again, hitting the game-winning kick.

Sawyer Seidl ran 34 times for 138 yards for the Pioneers. Brandon Ogren ran 24 times for 96 yards and a score for the Packers (2-7). Hill-Murray will play Simley in the section final.

Waunakee (Wis.) 27, River Falls 24, OT: Michael Gnorski's 1-yard touchdown run pushed top-seeded Waunakee (11-0) past River Falls (8-3) in overtime in Level 2 of Wisconsin's Division-2 playoffs.

Waunakee will face Menomonie in Level 3.
