High school football scrambles to move games ahead of heavy snow. What to know

High school football state tournament games between teams in the Rochester and Buffalo regions have been moved to Monday after Section V and Section VI officials looked at weather reports that call for heavy snowfall for some parts of the Rochester and Buffalo regions this weekend.

Schedule changes:

  • McQuaid, Hilton, Batavia and Attica will play their state quarterfinal games against the Buffalo region or Section VI champions on their homefields 6 p.m. Monday.

  • Since Section V Class D champion Oakfield-Alabama/Elba plays on a grass field, the decision was made to have the Aggies face Randolph 6 p.m. Monday at SUNY Brockport.

  • Pembroke, Section V's 8-man division champion, takes on Morrisville-Eaton from Section III or Syracuse region in a state playoff game, 6 p.m. Thursday at Pittsford Sutherland.

  • Pittsford, Canandaigua Academy and Alexander remain scheduled to play state tournament quarterfinal round games Friday night at high schools in the Albany area.

McQuaid and Hilton were supposed to play Saturday at the University of Rochester, Attica and Oakfield-Alabama/Randolph in Batavia. The Batavia Blue Devils were scheduled to play Friday at SUNY Brockport, Pembroke, located in-between Buffalo and Rochester, in Pittsford.

But the looming snow dump on Buffalo and southwest of the city forced consideration for the safety of Section VI teams while traveling to and from Rochester.
