High school football: Sunnyside close to title, McLane accomplishes feat, plus Orosi wins

Sunnyside High is a step closer to clinching an outright North Yosemite League title.

The Wildcats took care of business Friday night in a 60-47 victory over Torres in a high school football game in Madera.

“We knew all week it was going to be a big game,” Sunnyside quarterback Tanner Wilson said. “All we had to do is come out here and execute and play as a team and you see the final results.”

Sunnyside trailed by two scores, but made adjustments at halftime.

Wildcats coach Thomas Wilson gave plenty of credit to Torres coach Joseph Marquez.

“Coach does a great job over there,” he said. “He had them ready and had us pretty figured out, and we had to make a couple of changes. Once we got those changes in, it helped slow them down a little bit. They’re a tough football team.

Sunnyside can clinch a tie for the NYL title with a win over McLane.

Big achievement for McLane

McLane was too much for Madera South.

The Highlanders rolled past the Stallions 49-0 in an NYL game.

The win gives McLane six wins, the first time it’s accomplished that in 10 years.

McLane (6-2) is 4-1 and a game behind Sunnyside in the NYL
