High school football: Vote now in our poll for lohud's Week 8 Player of the Week

These are the candidates who were named finalists for lohud's Week 8 High School Football Player of the Week. The candidates are based on the players' performances from games played Oct. 28-29.

The athletes were chosen based on production, how much of an impact it had on the outcome, and competition. Because of the importance of playoff games, top performances in those were more strongly considered.

Please consider the credentials of each finalist and cast your vote on lohud.com for the one you find most worthy.

Yonkers Force quarterbacks Alvin Martinez and Atticus Oelkers were last week's winners, earning 36.3% of the votes cast.

This week's poll will remain open until 2 p.m. Tuesday. The winner will be announced later that night on our Twitter and Instagram accounts at @lohudsports and @lohudinsider.

Noah Chambers, Spring Valley

Spring Valley avenged a regular-season loss to Horace Greeley by beating the Quakers 48-28 in the Hudson River Football League semifinals. Chambers scored four times (three TD receptions, one rushing) and had a pair of interceptions to help unseat the league's defending champs.

Jason Cox, Mamaroneck

The senior went 15 of 22 for 311 yards and five touchdowns and added 12 carries for 128 yards as top-seeded Mamaroneck took down Mount Vernon 49-22 in the Class AA quarterfinals.

Deonte Douglas, Stepinac

The junior had an interception and rushed for two touchdowns to help fuel Stepinac's comeback from a 21-0 halftime deficit. The Crusaders tied St. Anthony's, the state's top-ranked team, 21-21, before the Friars returned a blocked field goal 70 yards in the final seconds to win 27-21.

Matt Fitzsimons, Somers

The senior went 13 of 17 for 206 yards and three touchdowns and added a 31-yard rushing touchdown in a 38-6 victory over Brewster in the Class A quarterfinals.

Craig Galea, John Jay-Cross River

The senior orchestrated an offense that piled up 689 yards of offense in John Jay's 55-28 road upset of top-seeded Clarkstown South in the Class A quarterfinals. Galea threw for 405 yards and five touchdowns.

Brandon Holman, Dobbs Ferry

The senior had 11 carries for 241 yards and four touchdowns, added a 65-yard touchdown catch and had 95 kickoff return yards as Dobbs Ferry ended the regular season with a 61-28 win over Irvington.

Thomas Keating, Carmel

The senior had 14 carries for 172 yards and scored a touchdown as Carmel beat Scarsdale 38-0 in the Class AA quarterfinals for its 24th straight victory.

Joey Koch, Mahopac

The senior carried 21 times for 290 yards and two touchdowns in Mahopac's 20-19 defeat in the Class A quarterfinals at Harrison. Koch scored on a 97-yard touchdown to give his team a 19-13 lead in the fourth quarter.

James Moran, Nanuet

The senior rushed for 253 yards and scored all three touchdowns as Nanuet held off Bronxville, 20-13, to win a Class B quarterfinal.

Ajani Sheppard, Iona Prep

The Gaels closed the regular season with a 35-7 victory over Chaminade that saw Sheppard finish 23 of 27 for 332 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for a score.

Ben Silverman, Ardsley

The junior contributed in all phases during Ardsley's 22-19 victory over Pearl River in the Class B quarterfinals. He had a fumble recovery and an interception in the second half, scored two touchdowns (including the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter) and threw a two-point conversion pass.

Javi Viscaino, North Rockland

The senior linebacker was a defensive force throughout North Rockland's 21-20 road upset of John Jay-East Fishkill in the Class AA quarterfinals. He had six solo tackles, eight assists, two tackles for loss and one sack an an interception. One of Viscaino's tackles came on the last play of regulation and helped send the game to overtime.

Luke Weiler, Byram Hills

Playing for injured starter Gavin Javorsky, the junior ran for 146 yards and two touchdowns as Byram Hills defeated Briarcliff/Hamilton in a Class B quarterfinal.
