High school girls basketball 2022-23 all-star team

Mar. 22—Player of the Year

Savanah Laurenty

Riverside, Junior

There were a lot of memorable points to Riverside's breakout season. Laurenty was one of the best. A 5-foot-10 guard/forward, Laurenty possesses a complete game. She finished the season averaging 17.5 points, tops on her team. She can score from the perimeter, on the drive or in the paint, where she averaged an area-best 13.5 rebounds per game. She plays solid defense, as her 3.8 steals per game shows, and she gets teammates involved with 3.4 assists per game. Her senior season next year should be something special, but her junior year was certainly something to be hold as the 2022-23 winner of The News-Herald's Kaayla Chones Award.

Coach of the Year

Brian Fulton, Riverside

Fulton might have a difficult time topping his first year at the helm of the Riverside program. All the Beavers did in his inaugural year was run the table in the Western Reserve Conference (12-0) with the program's first league title since 2005. The Beavers (20-4 overall) also won their first sectional title since 2006. Most of this year's team wasn't born yet the last time Riverside had a season like this.
