High School Gymnastics: Central squads sweep district championships in Odessa

ODESSA — The Central boys and girls gymnastics teams swept the District 2-6A titles on Thursday at Odessa Permian High School.

The girls squad won the event with 231.650 points, which was more than 30 points better than second place Permian.

The Bobcats won five events, including the All-Around, on the way to the district title. Kara Baker won the All-Around title with 77.200 points. Steely Young led a top six sweep of the balance beam as Baker finished second and Daniella DeLaCruz third, Kaylen Cadd fourth, Freddie Von Rosenberg fifth and Caroline Steel sixth.

Ella Burnes won the uneven bars with McKinley Nile second and Baker third. Baker also won the floor exercise with Nile second and Burnes third. Steele won the vault with Baker second and Nile third.

On the boys side, Logan Kypfer won the floor exercise and Eli Soto was third. Kypfer finished tied for second in the pommel horse. Central won the district title with 310.300 points to Permian's 307.500.

The team will next compete at the regional championships in Lubbock on March 29 and 30.
