High school musicals this week: 'Twelfth Night,' Python knights, a plant that bites

Not many high schools in the Lower Hudson Valley do two-weekend runs of their musicals, but North Rockland and Pleasantville do. They'll wrap up their shows this weekend, just as the curtain rises on seven one-weekend musicals.

North Rockland closes out Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “In the Heights” at 7 p.m., March 16, 17 and 18. Tickets are $15; $12 students, seniors, at nrhsdrama.BookTix.com.

Pleasantville says bye-bye to “Bye Bye Birdie” with two more performances, at 7:30 p.m., March 17 and 18. Tickets are $15 at the door.

In terms of new musicals this week, Clarkstown North presents "Twelfth Night," a musical setting of Shakespeare's most musical plays, starting as it does with the line "If music be the food of love, play on." Haldane High School in Cold Spring presents "Oklahoma!," a classic of the form by Rodgers & Hammerstein. Performances at 7 p.m., March 17 and 18, and 2 p.m., March 18 and 19. Hendrick Hudson in Montrose is all-in on ABBA, staging "Mamma Mia!" with performances at 7 p.m., March 17 and 18, and 1 p.m., March 19. Tickets are $15, $10 for students and seniors. At showtix4u.com.

Woodlands High School in Hartsdale presents "Fame," about students in a performing-arts high school, at 7 p.m., March 17, 5 p.m., March 18, and 2 p.m., March 19. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Season's busiest weekend on horizon

The weekend of March 23 to 26 is the busiest one on the musical calendar in the Lower Hudson Valley this season, with 16 musicals opening and two finishing their two-weekend runs. The second-weekend shows are Nyack's "Little Shop" and Westlake's "The Addams Family."

The new shows include: "Mean Girls" at Horace Greeley and Edgemont; "9 to 5" at John Jay; "Love's Labour's Lost" at New Rochelle; "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" at Ossining; "High School Musical" at Port Chester; "Once Upon a Mattress" in Suffern; "Legally Blonde" at Albertus Magnus; "James and the Giant Peach" in Brewster; "Grease" at Clarkstown South; "Chicago: Teen Edition" at Dobbs Ferry; "Bat Boy" in Pelham; "Footloose" at Ramapo; "Bye Bye Birdie" at Sleepy Hollow; "The Wedding Singer" at Somers; and "Kiss Me, Kate" at Ursuline School in New Rochelle.
