High School Notebook: Mueller gets 17 points, 17 rebounds to help Lakeview end losing skid

Lakeview hadn't won a game since last year — meaning December of 2021.

But the Spartans earned their first win of 2022 with a 60-43 victory over Loy Norrix in Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference boys basketball action as Lakeview improves to 5-6.

Lakeview ended its five-game losing streak as the Spartans pulled away in the second half. Only leading 32-28 at halftime, Lakeview held Loy Norrix to just 15 points in the second half.

As the Spartan defense ramped up, Loy Norrix shot just 17% from the floor in the second half.

Hayden Mueller had 17 points and 17 rebounds to lead Lakeview with Jashaun Boggerty coming up with 12 points and seven rebounds and Walter Brown adding 10 points.

Pennfield 73, Hastings 38

No. 7-ranked Pennfield improves to 8-2 as the Panthers led 43-18 at halftime. Luke Davis had 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals for Pennfield with Graham Boyd adding 16 points and Aiden Burns getting 12 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Marshall 69, Jackson Northwest 48

Marshall remains in a tie for first place in the Interstate 8 Conference with the win over Jackson Northwest, climbing to 6-1 in league play and 9-1 overall. Nate Tucker had 14 points, six rebounds and three assists with Josh Pugh adding 14 points and Alex Costa coming up with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Bellevue 63, Colon 43

In a battle of top 10 teams in Division 4, No. 9 Bellevue rolled past No. 7 Colon in SCAA action. Braylon Robbins had 18 points with Chase Graham adding 15 and Dawson Wing coming up with 10 for Bellevue (8-1). Justin Wickey had 13 points for Colon (7-2) with Josh West adding 10.

Climax-Scotts 81, Athens 59

Climax-Scotts led 44-23 at halftime as the Panthers improve to 4-3. Lance Smith had 24 points to lead C-S with Jackson Lawrence adding 15 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Aiven Roach had 24 points for Athens.

St. Philip 73, North Adams-Jerome 49

Colt Myers led St. Philip with 23 points, hitting five 3-pointers, as the Tigers improve to 4-4. Chris Adam added 21 points, Ben Crocker had 12 and Jackson Dzwik chipped in with 11 points.

Olivet 43, Perry 41

Olivet remains undefeated with a last-minute win over Perry. Bryce Wine hit the go-ahead basket on a fast break with under 20 seconds in the win and finished with 12 points. Bo Lincoln led Olivet with 13 points.

Thursday's Boys Basketball

Kalamazoo Central 71, Battle Creek Central 56

With a close game at halftime as the Maroon Giants led 25-19, Kalamazoo Central pulled away in the second half to improve to 7-4. BCC falls to 6-4 as Ke'Marion Tucker led the way with 28 points with Kylon Wilson adding 10.

Quincy 51, Springport 41

Quincy outscored Springport 34-21 in the second half. Derrek Newberry had a career-high 14 points to lead Quincy with Ashtyn Morris adding 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Calhoun Christian 79, Libertas Christian 36

Micah Reed had 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead Calhoun Christian with Nico Gummer adding 15 points and Josh Andren coming up with 14.

Friday's Girls Basketball

Coldwater 31, Harper Creek 25

Ellie Foley had 10 points to lead Coldwater, which goes to 6-4. Marissa Smith had nine points for Harper Creek.

Marshall 52, Jackson Northwest 45

Marshall beat Jackson Northwest for the first time in six years as the Redhawks improve to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in the league. Kylie Brown had 14 points with Mallory Tucker adding 13 and Addison Waito coming up with 12.

Hastings 55, Pennfield 48

Kaylee Glidden had 24 points, six assists and three steals as Pennfield falls to 4-8 with Kylie Crandall adding six points and 10 rebounds.

Olivet 44, Perry 15

Olivet improves to 6-4 with Kara Priddy and Payton Otto each scoring 10 points and pulling down seven rebounds.

Thursday's Girls Basketball

St. Philip 40, North Adams-Jerome 28

Mimi Hibbard had 17 points and Alex Kersten added 16 for St. Philip, which outscored NA-Jerome, 27-17, in the second half.

Kalamazoo Central 52, Battle Creek Central 35

A'Mya Hodges had 19 points with Shayla Ardis adding five points and 10 rebounds.

Mattawan 40, Gull Lake 39

Abbie Sexton had eight points for Gull Lake, which falls to 4-6.

Colon 40, Bellevue 19

Colon led 27-9 at halftime. Reese Williams led Colon with 19 points, eight rebounds and five blocks as the Magi climb to 8-1.

Calhoun Christian 67, Libertas Christian 19

Calhoun Christian jumped out to a 21-5 lead in the first quarter and improves to 7-2. Elie Wilson had 31 points, 10 rebounds and six steals.
