HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Abington boys basketball tops Oliver Ames in Don Byron Classic

Tyler Staiti scored 30 points as the Abington High boys basketball team beat Oliver Ames, 69-57, at home on Wednesday night in the second annual Don Byron Memorial Basketball Classic. The game is in memory of legendary basketball coach Don Byron, who coached at both Abington (13 years) and Oliver Ames (12 years).

Connor Pease had 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the Green Wave (9-11). Kingston Maxwell (11 points, 8 rebounds) and Zou Zou Hajjar (6 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists) also contributed.

OA (5-14) was led by Cole Craffey (23 points) and Soren Lolongna (11 points, 9 rebounds).

Abington will close the regular season next week by hosting the Shawn P. Cotter Tournament on Monday and Wednesday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Blue Hills 55, Upper Cape 39: Senior Nikk Ruffin scored 16 points as the visiting Warriors (11-7, 7-1) earned a share of the Mayflower Athletic Conference Large Division crown. Sophomore Dom Capaccioli added 10 points, and junior Elijah Dumornay added 7 points and was a defensive standout.

Cohasset 68, Lowell Charter 35: Sophomore Sam Larsen scored 13 points and Jamie Smith added 12 for the Skippers (9-9). Sam Colletta added 8.

West Bridgewater 66, Holbrook 56: Armani Perkins scored 19 points for the Bulldogs in the road loss. Owen Burke (12), Allen Brown (11) and Marquis Dobay-Lindsay (11) also contributed.

Boston English 57, Randolph 49: Mahkhi Barnes scored 15 points, but the Blue Devils (14-4) struggled from the free-throw line in a non-league road loss.

Hanover 52, Rockland 43: Senior forwards David Quinlan (12 points, 22 rebounds) and Jake Peterson (14 points) led the Hawks (11-7) to a non-league road win over the Bulldogs (10-8).

Marshfield 77, Dennis-Yarmouth 32: All 11 seniors scored on Senior Night as the Rams (12-6) won a non-league game at home. Marshfield is the Patriot League Keenan Division co-champion.

Middleborough 74, Dartmouth 63: Jacob Briggs scored 27 points and Matt Youngquist (17) and Nick Marzelli (15) also starred for the Sachems (15-5) in the non-league road win.

Norwell 57, Sandwich 37: The Clippers (14-5) won on the road.

Thayer Academy 66, BB&N 63: The Tigers (7-12) won at home.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

West Bridgewater 65, Holbrook 16: Jenella Jacobs (12 points) and Amanda Jacques (10) finished in double figures as the Wildcats clinched a tournament spot. Grace Polen added 8 points and Olivia Razza had 7.

Blue Hills 36, Upper Cape 19: A pair of juniors from Braintree -- Keira Martin (10 points) and Bridget Devine (8 points, 6 blocks) -- led the Warriors (17-2) to a home win.

Carver 62, Nantucket 17: Sarah Stairs, Ashleigh Johnson and Julia Grimes all had 12 points for the Crusaders.

Westport 44, Avon 14: Kylie Mallett scored 8 points for the Panthers (10-7) in the loss.

Marshfield 57, Dennis-Yarmouth 41: The visiting Rams (13-6) won their seventh in a row.

Thayer Academy 55, St. Paul's 36: The Tigers (10-8) won on the road.

BOYS HOCKEY

Weymouth 7, Milton 5: Anthony Prioli (4 goals, assist) and Ryan Kaner (goal, 2 assists) led visiting Weymouth (10-8-2) over Milton in a battle of Bay State Conference Wildcats. Ryan Ferguson (goal, assist) and Jack Browning (goal) also contributed for Weymouth, which clinched a playoff berth. For Milton (7-10-1), Barry Burke scored twice, and Alec Carew, Sean McDougall and Declan Walsh added goals. Walsh and Owen McHugh each had a pair of assists.

Thayer Academy 3, Austin Prep 1: Brady Kudrick (Norwell), Shane Taddia and Tommy Anderson (Braintree) scored as the Tigers (8-12-3) won at home.

Milton Academy 6, Belmont Hill 2: The Mustangs (15-4-4) won at home.

West/East Bridgewater 10, Upper Cape 6: Anthony Patete had 5 goals and an assist to record his 100th career point as WEB (9-10-1) won at home on Senior Night. Patete played three seasons as a skater and one as a goalie. Matt Martineau (2 goals, 3 assists) also starred, and senior goalie J.T. Vella got the win in his first varsity start.

Abington 7, Saint John Paul II 2: Jake Quinn scored 4 goals for the host Green Wave (8-10). Josh Halpin and Evan St. Martin each added a pair, Sam McDonald had a goal and an assist, and Matthew Grafton had 3 assists. Spencer Merrick made 24 saves.

Cohasset/Hull 5, Cambridge Rindge & Latin 3: Luke Dunham had a hat trick and Robbie Casagrande and Luke Mullen added goals for the Skippers (10-4-3) in the road win. Shane Mulcahy chipped in two assists.

BC High 4, St. Mary's of Lynn 1: The visiting Eagles (7-9-1) won their second in a row.

Canton 5, Bishop Feehan 3: AJ Thomas, Michael Thomas, Brendan Tourgee, James Young and Jack Digirolamo had solo tallies for the Bulldogs.

Hingham 5, Lincoln-Sudbury 1: Mason Lemieux, Mike Garrity, Brady Gannon, Connor Lasch and Charlie Packard scored as the Harbormen (12-2-5) won at home on Senior Night.

Quincy 7, Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth 4: Lincoln Hennessey had a hat trick and a pair of assists as the Presidents posted a non-league road win. Will Martin (2 goals, 3 assists) also starred, and Declan Rogers and Anthony Tibbetts had their first varsity goals. Colin Wilbur and Thomas Leger each scored twice for the Hawks (8-6-1). Cam Wilbur had 2 assists.

North Quincy 4, Plymouth North 3: Michael Silverman (2 goals, 2 assists) starred as the Raiders beat the Blue Eagles at home in Patriot League action. James Rogers and Charlie McGrail also scored for NQ.

Silver Lake 2, Plymouth South 1: Connor Finn’s goal with 4 seconds left, assisted by Aiden Dunphy, won it for the host Lakers (12-6-1). Mason Connor also scored, assisted by Nathan Hicks, and goaltender Strummer Beals had a strong game.

Stoughton/Brockton 6, Attleboro 0: Colby Strunk scored twice, and Charlie Caputo, Sean Farley, David Monaghan (first varsity goal) and Brendan Twohig also found the net for host S/B (6-12). Dmytro Yakovenko had the shutout.

Pope Francis Prep 5, Archbishop Williams 0: The Bishops (11-7) lost at home.

Marshfield 5, Pembroke 1: Brendan Abban scored for the Titans (8-7-2) in the road loss.

Hanover 4, Whitman-Hanson 2: The Hawks (6-9-3) topped the Panthers (9-8-1) in Patriot League action. Luke Tropeano and Joe Culley scored in the loss.

St. John’s Prep 9, Bridgewater-Raynham 1: The Trojans lost at home.

Bourne 7, South Shore Tech 4: The Vikings lost at home.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Bishop Feehan 1, Duxbury 0: Grace Nelson's first-period goal sent the visiting Dragons (16-1-2) to their first loss.

Pembroke 5, Hanover 3: Jen Birolini had a hat trick and Maria Cantino scored twice for the Titans.

Hingham 5, Whitman-Hanson/Silver Lake 1: Caroline Doherty scored her 100th career point in the win while Abigail Kennedy had two goals. Jules Connors scored in the loss for W-H/SL (10-6-1).

Milton 3, Weymouth 0: Sarah McGillivray, Molly Murphy and Ellie McConville scored as Milton (16-1-3) won a Bay State Conference road game over Weymouth (6-11-2). Goalie Lila Chamoun posted her 10th shutout of the season.

Cambridge 6, Stoughton 1: Ella Cummings scored in the loss.

Marshfield 6, Norwell/Abington 3: Kayla Leonard scored a hat trick and Sarah McIntyre added a pair of goals for the Rams (7-12-1). Penny Saich scored twice for Norwell/Abington (8-8-1), and Lainey Burns added a goal.

Thayer Academy 5, St. Mark's 0: The Tigers (10-7-2) won at home.

Walpole 6, Braintree 4: The Wamps (10-6-2) lost at home in Bay State Conference action.

Plymouth North/South 3, Quincy/North Quincy 1: The Plymouth co-op (10-5-3) won on the road.

Winthrop 3, Latin Academy/Fontbonne Academy 1: LA/F (8-10-1) lost on the road.

Canton 1, Sandwich 1 (OT): The visiting Bulldogs (12-2-4) skated to their second straight tie.

BOYS INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Division 4 states: Pembroke and Middleboro tied for fifth with 35 points at the Div. 4 state championships at the Reggie Lewis Center. Old Rochester (43) was the champ, and Newburyport (39) was runner-up. Southeastern (12) finished 17th, and Cardinal Spellman (5) was 27th.

Middleboro's Charles Montross won both the 55-meter hurdles (:7.88) and long jump (school-record 21-4.5). Teammate Nathan Donahue was second in the long jump (21-3.25), Lekan Sotonwa was fourth in the 1,000m (2:38.37), and Atley Phinney was sixth in the mile (4:40.01).

Pembroke's Andrew Gleason was second in the 55m (:6.62), Gabe Lamar was fourth in the 300m (:36.44) and Joshua Phinney was sixth in the 2-mile (10:30.11). The Titans also starred in the relays, finishing second in the 4x200m (Gleason, Jack Tosone, Gabe Lamar, Luke Lamar in 1:32.59), fourth in the 4x800m (8:39.22) and sixth in the 4x400m (3:40.26).

For Southeastern, Joseph Cook was third in the 55m hurdles (:7.99) and Joseph Tully was fourth in the high jump (5-10. Cardinal Spellman's Brian Gallagher was fourth in the long jump (20-4.75).

GIRLS INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Division 4 states: Led by a pair of wins from Isabel Wheeler, Middleboro finished fourth at the Div. 4 state championships, scoring 36 points at the Reggie Lewis Center. North Reading (69) and Whitinsville Christian (55) finished 1-2. Pembroke was seventh with 28.5 points. Hanover (19.5) was ninth, Southeastern (5) tied for 21st, Notre Dame Academy (3) was 26th, and Cardinal Spellman (2) was 31st.

Wheeler won the 55-meter hurdles (:8.76) and long jump (18-2.5) and was ninth in the 55m (:7.61) for the Sachems. Teammate Mia Lee-Bowens was runner-up in the 55m hurdles (:8.76), Jocelyn Bush was fifth in the long jump (16-8.5) and Brooke Main was fifth in the 300m (:42.34). Main also ran on the fifth-place 4x200m relay (1:50.52).

Pembroke's Sarah Claflin won the 55m (:7.28), took sixth in the long jump (16-6) and ran on the second-place 4x200m relay (1:48.12). Catrena Ghattas tied for third in the high jump (5-2), placed sixth in the 55m (:7.46) and also ran on the 4x200m.

Hanover's Hannah Geary was second in the 1,000m (3:06.81). Teammate Natalie Mutschler was third in the high jump (5-2) and sixth in the 55m hurdles (:9.08). Sophia Foley was seventh in the mile (5:39.99).

Southeastern's Annick Kenfack was fourth in the shot put (33-2.5), and NDA's Lucy Wilson was sixth in the 1,000m (3:11.44).
