High School Roundup (Apr. 15): Shelbie Krieger homers twice as Rootstown tops Chippewa

Shelbie Krieger homered twice and drove in four runs Saturday as Rootstown softball scored an 11-9 victory at Chippewa.

Freshman Kaitlyn Hammerschmidt added a single and a double for the Rovers, while Abby White also had multiple hits, tying with Krieger for the team lead with three runs scored.

Aurora 1, Green 0

McKennah Metzger's four-hit shutout led the Greenmen to victory.

Maggie McVicker knocked in the game-winning run in the third for Aurora, which also got two hits apiece from Sophie Retton and Abby Dalessandro.

Green 9, Aurora 6

The second game of Saturday's doubleheader was taken over by the offense, including three hits from the Greenmen's Rayna Unverferth and two apiece from Lailah Bohanan, McKennah Metzger and Sophie Retton.

The Bulldogs took the lead with five runs in the third and never gave it back.

Mogadore 13, Minerva 0

Addie Christy secured 14 of 15 outs for the Wildcats, allowing just two hits and a walk while not giving up a run.

Katie Gardner, Rylee Clark, Olivia Kidd, Lily Hotchkiss, McKenna Whitehead, Gracie Funk and Christy all tallied two hits for Mogadore.

Gardner doubled and tripled while Clark doubled twice for the Wildcats.

Mogadore 7, Minerva 1

Katie Gardner delivered a one-hitter for the Wildcats, striking out nine.

The top of the order delivered again for Mogadore as Rylee Clark, Olivia Kidd and Gardner tallied two hits apiece, with Clark also leading the team with three RBIs.

Baseball

Southeast 8, Coventry 7

The Pirates walked it off to cap an epic back-and-forth battle.

Down 5-3, the Pirates surged into the lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

After Coventry scored two in the seventh to retake the lead (7-6), Southeast secured the walk-off win. Kyle Booher had a team-leading two hits for the Pirates, who got a double apiece from Nate Muncy, Joe Sharish, Logan West and Booher.

Field 11, Northwest 1

Deegan Yutzy tossed a one-hitter for the Falcons, who moved to 8-2 with the nonconference win.

The bats were alive from the jump for Field, which scored five runs in the first. Kayden Smith hit a double and two singles and drove in three runs to help lead the way for the Falcons, who also got two RBIs apiece from Grady Eader and Logan Lonzrick.

Stow-Munroe Falls 6, Roosevelt 1

The Bulldogs broke a tie score with two runs in the fourth and added three in the seventh to top the Rough Riders as part of the NICU Classic.

Donovan Daetwyler, Sam Lanier and Jon Jon Smith had a hit apiece for Roosevelt.
