HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Barnstable boys cross country wins league title

The Barnstable High boys cross country team clinched the Cape and Island League Title by defeating Dennis-Yarmouth, 17-42, on Tuesday.

The Red Hawks were led by Jaxson Merrill and Jeremy Bullock finishing first and second with times of 16:57. Gabe Pichardo came in third with a 17:56. Nick Terranova was the fastest Dolphin runner, finishing in fourth with an 18:41.

Girl's Cross Country

Dennis-Yarmouth 25, Barnstable 32: The Dolphins handed Barnstable its first loss of the season, and clinched the Cape and Islands League Championship. Barnstable's Chloe Dibb won the race and set a junior class record with a time of 19:29. The Red Hawks record is now 5-1.

Boys Soccer

Falmouth Academy 2, Upper Cape 2: Elijah Livramento scored the first directly from a corner, and set up the second in Upper Cape's (5-10-2) tie with Falmouth Academy (5-10-1). Gio Haga scored the second to give the Rams a 2-0 lead. The Mariners came back to earn the tie.

St. John Paul II 0, Sturgis West 0: The Lions (9-3-3) and Navigators (7-2-5) played out a scoreless draw. Jack Ellis played well in net for JPII, as did Liam Powell, Nico Traykovski, Jay Imad and Tony Ahn on defense.

Dennis-Yarmouth 2, Sandwich 2: The Dolphins (3-7-3), and Blue Knights (1-10-1) played out a 2-2 draw. Daniel Oman opened the scoring for Sandwich in the second half, and then added a second to tie the game at two. Both of his goals were assisted by Cameron Bice

Monomoy 1, Sturgis East 0: Ryan Laramee scored with a header to give the Sharks (10-2-3) the win over the Storm (5-5-4).

Girl's Soccer

Monomoy 3, Sturgis East 1: Riley Hesse scored two goals for the Sharks (12-5-1) in the win. Melissa Velasquez added the third to beat the Storm (5-10). Mackenzie Bowers dished out two assists and Maya Flaherty had eight saves.

St. John Paul II 2, Sturgis West 0: The Lions (16-1) took their winning streak to 15 games after beating the Navigators (9-5-2). Raegan Dillon scored both goals in the win, and was set up by Aniela Gallagher and Teagan Forde.

Cape Cod Academy 5, Rising Tide 0: Jenna Marsh scored four of the Seahawks five goals in the win over Rising Tide. The win takes the Seahawks record to 9-7-1 on the year. Lili Shanahan made three saves in goal, and also scored the fifth goal.

Sandwich 4, Dennis-Yarmouth 1: Megan Jakubicka scored a brace to lead the Blue Knights (7-6-2) over the Dolphins (1-10-2).

Nauset 2, Falmouth 0: Pepper Escher recorded her ninth shutout of the year in the Warriors (13-1-1) win over the Clippers (10-5-1). Olivia Avellar and Georgie Orlandella were the goal scorers for Nauset. Caroline Kennard and Emma Easley recorded assists.

Field Hockey

Nauset 2, Sturgis West 1: Nauset improves to 7-6-3 after beating Sturgis West (5-5-2). Keira Shinnick scored the only goal of the game for the Navigators in the loss. Sam Orcutt made 20 saves in the loss.

Norwell 8, Mashpee 0: The Falcons lost to Norwell and drop to 1-11. Ayesha Shafi finished with nine saves.

Dennis-Yarmouth 2, Nantucket 0: The Dolphins shutout Nantucket to improve to 4-7-5. The loss drops Nantucket to 6-6-1.

St. John Paul II 3, Westport 0: Kaylee Anthony scored twice, and Emily Gorsuch added the third in the Lions (5-3-4) win over Westport on senior night.

Girl's Volleyball

Duxbury 3, Falmouth 0: The Clippers (3-14) were swept by Duxbury (5-25, 16-25, 9-25). Christina Femino had seven assists and three assists.
