HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Barnstable volleyball wins ninth straight; remains unbeaten

The Barnstable High girls volleyball team got their ninth straight win to begin the season, sweeping the Nauset Warriors (25-3, 25-6, 25-17).

Lindsay Jones had 10 kills to lead the way for the Red Hawks, while setter Sadie Wellbeloved dished out 17 assists.

Scout Johnson and Teagan Geraghty each had five aces, and Molly Fredo and Charlotte Sullivan added five kills apiece.

Volleyball

Saint John Paul II 3, Rising Tide 0: The Lions swept Rising Tide (25-10, 25-14, 25-7). Olivia Zapolski had 14 kills to lead the Lions. Sophia Tropeano had a game-high 12 assists, and seven digs in the win.

Bourne 3, Seekonk 0: Bourne swept Seekonk (25-7, 25-9, 25-10). Junior Ella Timo finished with seven aces and 12 assists to help drive the Canalwomen's offense. Senior Sarah Sweeney had 16 digs for Bourne (6-5). Quinn Hawkes added seven aces of her own.

Sturgis East 3, Sturgis West 2: Natalie Frederiksen had a swiss-army knife type of performance for the Storm. She finished with 21 assists, seven aces, five digs, eight kills, two blocks for Sturgis East (4-4) in the win.

Dennis Yarmouth 3, Falmouth 0: The Dolphins improved to 7-3 after sweeping the Clippers (25-4, 25-15, 25-5). Vivian Castano led the way for the Dolphins offense with 25 kills, while Ellen Swanson led the defensive effort with 17 digs.

Boys Golf

Martha's Vineyard 5½, Sturgis East ½: Martha's Vineyard improved to 9-1 on the season after beating the Storm at Farm Neck Golf Course. Cam Napior's 38 and Nick Ben David's 39 were the two lowest scores of the day for the Vineyarders.

Bourne 277, Case 341: Luca Finton shot a 41 to lead the Canalmen to the win, helping his team improve to 6-3.

Monomoy 5, Sturgis West 1: Jackson Rocco shot a 38 to lead the Sharks to victory over the Navigators at Eastward Ho! Golf Course in Chatham. Casey Huse shot a 40 and had the next lowest score for the Sharks.

Saint John Paul II 7, Upper Cape 2: The Lions (9-5) earned their fourth straight win after beating the Rams at Sandwich Hollows. Sam Scioletti, a freshman, was the medalist after shooting a 40. The Rams drop to 9-2.

Nauset 256, Barnstable 260: The Warriors got the win over Barnstable.

Mashpee 92, Abington 91: Braden Fraser made a clutch 15-foot putt to give the Falcons the win. Jack Spencer shot a 38 to lead Mashpee on the night.

Sandwich 245, Falmouth 273: The Blue Knights improve to 12-1 on the season after beating the Clippers.

Field Hockey

Barnstable 3, New Bedford 1: The Red Hawks overcame a first-quarter deficit to beat New Bedford. Ally McEneaney set up Alexa Garthee twice to give Barnstable (6-4-0) the lead before McEneaney turned goal scorer for the third. Senior captain Grace Bunnel had 12 saves in the win.

Westport 3, Bourne 0: The Canalmen (4-5-1) were beaten by Westport.

Girls Soccer

Saint John Paul II 7, Cape Cod Academy 0: Teagan Forde got the scoring started for the Lions in the win, netting six minutes into the game. Ella Cheney had a game-high two goals. Marlo Jumper scored her first varsity goal. Raegan Dillon, Aniela Gallagher, and Devin Crofford all found the scoresheet for the Lions (8-1-0). Lilian Shanahan had 26 saves for the Seahawks (5-4-0).

New Bedford 1, Barnstable 0: The Red Hawks (0-10-1) were shutout by New Bedford.

Bourne 2, Case 0: The Canalmen (3-5-2) got the victory and the clean sheet over Case.

Mashpee 2, Abington 1: Hailey Garcia had a part to play in both of the Falcons goals in their win over the Green Wave. Eighth-grader Mia Fougere made 11 saves in the Falcons (4-5-1) goal, and Charlie Jenkins scored the game winning goal late in the second half.

Sturgis West 1, Dennis-Yarmouth 1: The Navigators (4-2-2) and Dolphins (0-5-2) played out a draw.

Boys Soccer

Bourne 2, Case 1: Leo Withiam-Andrade found the back of the net from 25 yards to open the scoring for the Canalmen in their win. After Case tied the game at one, Michael Dankert scored the winner for Bourne (4-5-1), heading in Shea Ullo's corner.

Abington 5, Mashpee 2: Tyler Theodore scored both goals for the Falcons (0-6-2) in their loss to the Green Wave.

Cape Tech 6, Falmouth Academy 1: Four second-half goals put the game out of reach for the Crusaders, who beat the Mariners (3-4-0). Lucas Gurski got the scoring started for the Crusaders (5-2-0), before Jason Neira doubled the lead. Jace Clady scored twice in the second half, and Gurski added a goal late in the win.
