High school roundup: Bergonzi perfect at the plate as Mashpee softball gets 1st win
Sophia Bergonzi went 4-for-4 at the plate, scored 3 runs, and added 4 RBIs for the Mashpee Falcons in a 21-5 victory over the Randolph Blue Devils on Friday. It was the Mashpee softball team's first win of the season.
Pitcher Molly Madden finished 2-for-3, scored 3 runs, and struck out 7, Isabella Eagan and Hailey Scholl each scored 3 runs and Sam Rozum, Kasey Boettger, Evelyn Provencher and Michelle Gonsalves each scored 2 runs for Mashpee (1-13).
Falmouth 12, Dennis-Yarmouth 2: Maci Griesbauer went 3-for-4 with a home run, 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs for the Clippers in a win over the Dolphins.
Phoebe Cutter pitched 2.2 innings and allowed a run, 2 hits, 4 walks, and struck out 6, while Anna Velesig in relief pitched 4.1 innings and allowed a run, 2 hits, and struck out 4 for Falmouth (11-5). Velesig also went 2-for-4, scored 2 runs and had 3 RBIs and Haylee Silvia finished 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored for the Clippers.
South Shore Voke 7, Upper Cape 3: Taysia Lopes pitched six innings and allowed 7 hits, no earned runs, and struck out 5 for the Rams, but it was not enough as the Vikings got the win.
Maggie DiPasquale had three singles and a two-run RBI triple that helped Upper Cape (10-8-1) to an early 3-0 lead. Kim Gosselin played well in left field with four putouts and doubled a runner at second for a double play with bases loaded and one out in the fourth inning to keep South Shore off the board.
Sturgis 15, St. John Paul II 6: Sturgis continued their strong start to the season advancing to 12-1 over St John Paul (5-9).
Nauset 12, Sandwich 0: The Warriors cruised to victory and improved to 5-9.
Old Colony 19, Cape Tech 4: Cape Tech dropped to 0-14 after losing to Old Colony.
Monomoy 17, Rising Tide 1; Monomoy 16, Rising Tide 4 (doubleheader): Monomoy won both sides of its doubleheader today. The two wins took them to 14-2
Nantucket 13, Barnstable 3: The Whalers recorded their fifth win of the year over Barnstable (2-15)
BOYS LACROSSE:
St. John Paul II 9, Monomoy 8 (OT): The Lions (2-10) beat the Sharks (8-5) in overtime.
Cape Tech 10, Bristol Plymouth 4: Cape Tech improved to 4-9 on the season.
GIRLS LACROSSE:
Upper Cape 12, Bristol County Aggie 3: Upper Cape (9-6) got its ninth win of the season over Bristol County Aggie.
Martha’s Vineyard 12, Bristol Plymouth Reg. 1: The Vineyarders notched their first win of the season to improve to 1-10
Dennis-Yarmouth 12, Sturgis West 9: The Dolphins improved to 5-9 on the year after beating the Navigators (3-6)
Falmouth 8, Nauset 6: Falmouth (7-4) took the victory over the Warriors (1-11)
BASEBALL:
Sandwich 10, Nauset 1: Alex Marancik struck out 7 for the Blue Knights as they beat the Warriors. Connor Finn had 4 hits, Joe Morrison followed up with 3 hits, and Brayden Ramsey and Owen Beaton each had 2 hits and 2 RBIs for Sandwich (11-6).
Sturgis East 2, St John Paul 0: The Storm improved to 6-4-1 with the shutout win, while JPII drops to 8-7.
Upper Cape 3, South Shore, 2: Upper Cape improved to 8-10 on the year after beating South Shore.
Barnstable 7, Martha’s Vineyard 2: The Redhawks beat the Vinyarders (9-5) to improve to 8-7
Monomoy 7, Rising Tide 4: The Sharks got their 10th win of the year after beating Rising Tide
Nantucket 15, Sturgis West 1: The Whalers (2-10) beat Sturgis West, who dropped to 3-7.
GIRLS TENNIS:
Cape Cod Academy 4, Rising Tide 1: Lili Shanahan won first singles 6-0, 6-0 for the Seahawks as they beat the Herons.
Bella Scioletti won second singles 6-0, 6-2, Yoana Dokleva won third singles 6-2, 6-3, and Megan Morey and Molly Lowery got the victory in first doubles 6-2, 6-1 for Cape Cod Academy (6-7).
Mashpee 3, East Bridgewater 2: Mariele Henley won the only singles match in the first singles 6-1, 6-2 for the Falcons as they beat the Vikings.
Jamie Hughes and Grace Dion won first doubles 6-3, 6-6 (7-3) and Alina Doolan won second doubles 6-2, 6-4 for Mashpee (3-9).
Martha’s Vineyard 5, Barnstable 0: The Vineyarders rode a clean sweep to improve to 17-1 on the year.
Nauset 5, Sandwich 0: The Warriors swept Sandwich to improve to 8-6
Falmouth 5, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: The Clippers swept the Dolphins to improve to 3-8. D-Y falls to 1-9.
BOYS TENNIS:
Nantucket 3, Monomoy 2: The pairs, Boyon Kalpazanov and Hunter Gross, and Connor McLean and Hawkin Edwards, each won their doubles matches for the Whalers.
Henry Kathawala won his singles match over Matt Barbella 6-4, 6-7 (8-10), 7-6 (10-8) giving Nantucket (4-5) the edge.
Ryan Casey defeated Evan Belanger 6-4, 6-2 in first singles and Colin Malone defeated Quinn Keating 6-1, 6-4 in second singles for Monomoy (13-2).
Nauset 4, Sandwich 1: Rufus McCleery defeated Andrew Emmel 6-1, 6-1 in first singles for the Warriors as they beat the Blue Knights.
Salvi Cacciola beat Pablo Gonzalez 6-1, 6-2 in second singles, Conner Pike and Carson Winslow got the first doubles victory over Liam McLaughlin and Joey LaScola 6-0, 6-2, and Nauset (12-5) won second doubles by forfeit.
Charles Gurner defeated Sky Bates 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 in second singles for Sandwich (4-7).
Cape Cod Academy 5, Rising Tide 0: The Seahawks swept the Herons in singles and doubles matches.
Griffin Mayo defeated Logan Eddy 7-5, 6-3 in first singles, Connor Hall beat Jack Flynn 6-2, 6-2 in second singles and James Brunicardi got the win over Conor O'Neil 6-4, 7-5 for Cape Cod Academy (8-4).
For the doubles, Nate Delman and Tommy Murray defeated Alex Garon and Jack Walker 6-4, 6-4 in first doubles, and Bryan Gelnett and Jared Scarpato got the victory over Alex Lucibello and Bryce Murray 7-5, 6-2 in second doubles for the Seahawks.
Falmouth 4, Dennis-Yarmouth 1: Thomas Ghossein won the first singles 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) for the Clippers as they beat the Dolphins for their second win of the season.
Sam Collins and Jack Dunn won first doubles 6-1, 6-3 and Falmouth (2-11) won third singles and second doubles by forfeit.
