HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Bridgewater-Raynham softball hands Plymouth North second loss

Last spring, the Bridgewater-Raynham High softball team rattled off three upsets as the No. 11 seed to reach the Division 1 South Sectional finals.

So Wednesday's result should come as no surprise. The Trojans (10-9) defeated Plymouth North, 6-3, handing the Blue Eagles just their second loss of the season.

Lily Welch pitched well in the win (7 innings, 7 strikeouts, 5 walks, 3 hits, 2 earned runs) and Emma Flaherty (2 hits, 3 RBI) led the offense. Emma Talpey had 2 hits and 2 RBI.

Holly Clary (2 hits, 1 run, 1 RBI) and Riain Keefe (hit, 3 runs) also contributed.

Marissa Durette was 2 for 4 with a 3-run home run for North in the loss. Kylee Carafoli, Maggie Ladd and Grace Beatty added hits.

In other high school action on Wednesday:

SOFTBALL

Hull/Cohasset 12, Dennis-Yarmouth 11 (9 inn.): Phoebe Sullivan drove in the winning RBI. Taylor Sodeberg earned the win. Sodeberg and Nia Frank both had big hits late.

Marshfield 22, Notre Dame Academy 10: The Rams (12-10) were led by big games from Sam Bongiolatti (3 hits, 4 RBI), Ella Staffier (3 hits, 3 RBI), Haylie McPhee (3 hits, 2 RBI) and Mikaela Powers (2 hits, 3 RBI).

Abington 14, Norwell 2: Shannon Varvitsiotis earned the win in the circle and added 3 hits and 2 RBI at the plate for the Green Wave (16-3). Meg McCann added 2 hits and 3 RBI as she celebrated on Senior Day. Ava DiPietro (2 RBI, 3 runs), Maddie Perry (3 hits) and Calli Pineau (3 hits, 3 runs) also starred.

Silver Lake 2, Foxboro 0: Caroline Peterson fired a 1-hitter with 14 strikeouts as the Lakers (18-2) wrapped up the regular season. Jayme Carr had an RBI triple and Maddie Bryan had a sacrifice fly to account for Silver Lake's offense.

Fontbonne 6, Quincy 5: Maggie Smith had a walk-off single for the Ducks.

Milton 4, Framingham 3: Anna Radley delivered a walk-off single on Senior Night for the Wildcats.

BASEBALL

Cardinal Spellman 7, East Bridgewater 4: Jason Kelly tossed 6 1/3 innings to earn the win for Spellman (6-14). Stephen Nardelli led the offense with a pair of hits and 2 RBI.

Barnstable 8, Whitman-Hanson 3: Harrison Gabrielle and Ethan Smith (double) each had an RBI for the Panthers (8-11).

Avon 10, Bristol Aggie 0: Ryan Luddy struck out 9 over 5 innings for the Panthers, who clinched a tournament spot with the win. Will Torres had a 2-run double and Mike Morais stole 2 bases and scored twice.

Carver 14, Rockland 1: The Crusaders won the South Shore League game.

Cohasset 4, Mashpee 0: Collin Madden tossed a complete-game shutout as the Skippers clinched the South Shore League Tobin Division title.

Thayer 14, St. George's 0: The Tigers (9-11) won an ISL game.

Braintree 8, Walpole 6: Tyler Curtis pitched 5 scoreless innings for the win for the Wamps (14-5). Jordan Gorham, Jack Fitzgerald, Jeff Charron and Aiden Aubertine all had 2 hits.

Nauset 5, Plymouth South 3: Naythan Ruehs had 2 hits and 2 RBI for the Panthers (14-5) in the loss.

Bishop Stang 3, Bridgewater-Raynham 1: Trent Smith (6 innings, 5 strikeouts, 3 runs) pitched well in the loss for the Trojans. Luke Barry had a sacrifice fly.

Hull 11, South Shore Christian Academy 10: Pinch-hitter Ken Autio squeezed in the winning run in the top of the seventh for the Pirates, who battled back from an early 8-3 deficit. In a 5-run sixth inning, Aiden Robey (3 for 5) and Luke Dunham (3 for 4) drove in 2 runs each, and John Reynolds (2 for 5) also had an RBI. Luke Richardson got the win in relief.

Framingham 6, Milton 5: The Wildcats (17-3) dropped their regular-season finale. 

BOYS LACROSSE

Southeastern 8, Cape Cod Tech 5: Thomas Hustins (4 goals, 2 assists) starred for the Hawks while Jacob Lehan chipped in 3 points (goal, 2 assists). Peyton Volz, Jeremiah Hale and Sean Pechulis all had solo tallies.

Oliver Ames 12, Middleboro 8: Ben Reardon and his 7 goals helped the Tigers fend off the Sachems' comeback bid after OA led 9-2 at halftime. Ryan Jaco had a hat trick, and sophomores Evan Jaco and Alex McAndrew each scored once.

Abington 11, South Shore Tech 5: Hunter Grafton led the way for the Green Wave with 5 goals and an assist. John Halpin added 2 goals and 2 assists and Zach Buccigross had 2 goals and an assist.

Quincy/North Quincy 6, Hull 5: Senior Joe Manton starred on Senior Night with 4 goals while classmate and defenseman Michael Steele had his first career goal. Riley O'Connell stopped 13 shots and Teddy Lynch had the other Q/NQ goal. Sean Marois (4 goals) and Logan Chennette (goal) scored for Hull while Sean Walsh had 22 saves.

Foxboro 8, Cohasset 6: The Skippers dropped the non-league game.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Oliver Ames 17, Middleboro 6: Georgie Costello (5 goals) and Hailey Bourne (4 goals) starred for the Tigers.

Thayer 15, St. George's 6: The Tigers (14-2-1) concluded their season with a win.

Abington 9, South Shore Tech 7: The win qualified the Green Wave for the tournament.

GIRLS TENNIS

Marshfield 4, North Quincy 1: The Rams won the Patriot League match.

Durfee 3, Brockton 2: Picking up wins for Brockton were the second doubles team of Priscilla Barros/Jessica Le and third singles Ahunna Okreke.

Hingham 3, Notre Dame Academy 2: Mathilde Megard (first singles), Katelyn Erikson (second singles), and Renee Martel/Sanya Khadivi (second doubles) won their matches for the Harborwomen (17-1). Charlotte Iviney (third singles) and Bella LaGraffa/Viviene La Graffa (first doubles) picked up points for NDA.

Plymouth South 5, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: Kiera McLaughlin, Emma Colonna and Lauren Burgess won in singles, and South swept the doubles with the teams of Karina Dias/Anna Quinn and Lexi Kneeland/Anna Lanning.

Braintree 5, Walpole 0: In the regular-season finale, Haily Pham, Jolin Yang and Sophia Tang won in singles, and the Wamps (14-3) swept the doubles with the teams of Megan Lai/Lois Crichley and Emma Townsend/Diya Jhamtani.

BOYS TENNIS

Duxbury 5, Pembroke 0: The Dragons finished the regular season with an undefeated record.

Rockland/East Bridgewater 5, Carver 0: Rockland/EB (12-2) wrapped up the regular season with a sweep. Adam Beatrice, Petr Quinn and Nick Mesheau swept the singles in order. Will Cifrino/Het Patel won a three-set thriller at first doubles and Will Maynard-Pimental/Logan Maguire won at second doubles.

Whitman-Hanson 4, Middleboro 1: Dan McDevitt (third signles) and Charles Herman/George Dykens (second doubles) won 6-0, 6-0 for the Panthers. 

GIRLS GOLF

Hingham 6, Scituate 0: The Harborwomen won the Patriot League match.

Braintree 5, Framingham 1: The Wamps finish the regular season at 8-5-1.

Quincy/North Quincy 4, Saugus 2: Caroline Cavicchi and Norah Cronin had big wins for Q/NQ.
