HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Brockton boys, B-R girls track teams win Southeast Conference titles

The Brockton High boys and Bridgewater-Raynham girls indoor track teams won the Southeast Conference Championship Meet on Wednesday.

In the boys meet, the Boxers rolled to a championship by tallying 135 points and sending 16 different athletes to the podium. Second-place Dartmouth scored 55 points while B-R ended with 44.

Brockton's Jason Wonodi and Christensen Paul finished 1-2 in the 55 meter dash. Paul was first in the long jump. Mamadu Tchamo won the 2-mile and 600.

Jean Karlo Galvao Duenas led a Boxer sweep in the 55 hurdles as Giovany Aristhilde (second) and Jonathan-Elijah Bonilla (third) also medaled.

Other individual league champions from Brockton included: Alan Jordone (300), Christopher Gorynski (1,000), Nicholas O'Connell (mile) and Anthony Canuto (high jump).

The Boxers also won the 4x200 (Canuto, Jamar Goss, Jordonne, Wonodi) and 4x400 (Chris Brice, Malachi Johnson, Valerie Moise, Brandon Torres) relay crowns.

B-R's Declan Hetrick won the shot put, and the Trojans' 4x800 relay team of Damien Chu, Connor Donahue, James Murray and Ian Farrell placed first.

In the girls meet, the Trojans scored 112 points to beat out Dartmouth (98). Brockton was fourth with 15 points.

The Trojans took home titles in the 4x200 (Nethica Auguste, Makena Columbus, Mahalia Forbes-Smith, Lily Giurleo) and 4x400 (Auguste, Emily Keefe, Riain Keefe, Sydney O'Donnell) relays.

Lydia Taccini (55), Emily Keefe (600), O'Donnell (1,000) and Leah Johnson (2-mile) were all individual champs for the Trojans.

Brockton's Taylor Campbell won the shot put title.

BOYS HOCKEY

Cohasset/Hull 11, Cardinal Spellman 2: Freshman Luke Dunham scored four goals and added an assist as the Skippers skated to a big win. Justin Appleby and Matt Mahoney each scored a pair of goals. Hayden Manfredi finished with three points (goal, two assists).

Norwell 3, Nantucket 1: Matty Ward, Ronan Schiponi and Kevin Leary scored for the Clippers (14-1) while Quinn Declan was solid in net. The win was No. 200 for coach Jim Casagrande.

Canton 7, Bishop Feehan 1: Eamon Kelly had a hat trick, and Billy Delello, AJ Thomas, Andrew Valkanas and Tommy Phaneuf added goals for the Bulldogs (13-2-1).

Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth 6, Blue Hills 2: Dalton Ghelfi and Nolan Sturdevant each scored 2 points for the Hawks (11-4, 10-0 Mayflower). The win clinched a spot in the state vocational championship game for Southeastern/B-P. Keagan Bunker and Tomas Leger had solo goals. Kacey Brown added 3 assists.

Stoughton/Brockton 8, Wareham/Carver 0: Colby Strunk tallied four goals in the win while Chris Andrade and Sean McGowan combined for the shutout. Cooper Card, Josh Greenspoon and Steven Westerlund all had solo tallies.

Silver Lake 5, Abington 2: The Lakers improved to 13-4 as Aidan Dunphy tallied two goals. Peter Bond picked up the win in net while Pat Murphy, Sam Dilley and Gavin Sampson had solo tallies. Mikey Johnson (first varsity) and Jake Quinn scored goals in the loss.

Hingham 1, Duxbury 0 (OT): Aiden Brazel scored the winning goal 37 seconds into overtime. Luke Merian (22 saves) recorded his second consecutive shutout. Duxbury goaltender Sam Mazanec made 45 saves in defeat.

St. Mary's (Lynn) 2, Bridgewater-Raynham 0: The Trojans lost at home.

Hanover 8, North Quincy 1: Max Dasilva and Quinn Brown scored two goals apiece for the Hawks.

BC High 4, Saint John's (Shrewsbury) 0: Aidan McDonnell had two goals and an assist as the Eagles (5-9-1) won the Catholic Conference battle. Ryan Flaherty (Milton) and Andrew TeDuits also scored, and Ray Carabin (East Bridgewater) made 19 saves for the shutout.

Braintree 3, Framingham 2: The Wamps (12-3-1, 10-0-1) won the Bay State battle as Charlie DiMartino scored two goals. Colin Gaffney scored his first varsity goal.

Weymouth 2, Walpole 1: The Wildcats picked up the Bay State win thanks to goals from Anthony Prioli and Dave Pittman.

Milton 5, Needham 1: Jimmy Fallon scored a hat trick and Jake Pelton stopped 21 shots in the win.

King Philip 3, Oliver Ames 0: The Tigers dropped the Hockomock League game.

Archbishop Williams 3, Central Catholic 1: Sean Murphy (tip off a Robbie Cibotti shot), Jackson Sylvester and Finn Kelly scored for the Bishops.

Quincy 5, Plymouth South 2: Cam Quigley and Lukas Lamonica each scored twice, and Lincoln Hennessy added a goal for the Presidents (10-4-2).

Marshfield 6 Plymouth North 0: Jake Hemingway scored twice, and goalie Zephyr Jones made 12 saves for the shutout to lead the Rams (12-4-1). Nick Souretis (2 assists), Cam McGettrick (assist), Chris Finneran and Owen Burke added goals.

West/East Bridgewater 2, Middleboro 2: Christian Bates and Bryce Leighton each had a goal and an assist as the Wild Vikings (6-7-2) skated to a tie with the Sachems (6-7-1). Leighton's goal was his first on varsity. Goaltender Brayden Bates had a strong game for WEB.

Whitman-Hanson 5, Rockland 0: Matt Solari started the scoring with a natural hat trick, and Bobby Hunter and Zakk Spano later added goals for the Panthers (6-10). Senior goalie Erik Dean made 15 saves for the shutout.

Thayer 5, Lawrence 4: Freshman Teddy Lally tallied two goals to lead the Tigers. C.J. Foley, Jackson Stuzynski and Colin Richard each had solo tallies.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Norwell 2, Whitman-Hanson/Silver Lake 1: The Clippers (6-8-1) scored two third-period goals, including the winner from Penny Saich (assisted by Jane Smith) as time expired. Lainey Burns scored the other goal off a feed from Lauren Bedford. Caitlin Dilley scored for WHSL (7-8.

Bishop Stang 6, West Bridgewater/East Bridgewater 0: WEB lost on the road.

Braintree 6, Framingham 0: Savanna Littlewood scored twice, and goalie Eva Surrette posted her fifth straight shutout (and seventh of the season) as the Wamps (12-2-1) stretched their winning streak to nine games. Maggie Burchill, Kelsie Littlewood, Meghan Ceriani and Emma Walsh added goals.

Mansfield/Oliver Ames/Foxboro 8, Stoughton 0: Cataline Kipp scored twice, and Kylie O'Keefe, Maeve Anastasia, Ava Adams, Erin DiCenzo, Madison Guilfoyle and Samantha Ledin added goals as MOA won on Senior Night. Every senior skater recorded at least a point, and senior goalie Jess Widdop earned the shutout.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Everett 71, North Quincy 63: Daithi Quinn scored a career-high 44 points as he shot 15 of 24 from the field, but the Raiders (11-4) dropped the non-league contest. Colm Geary added 5 points and 12 rebounds.

Abington 69, Bedford 66: Antwonne Graham Jr. (17 points, 7 assists), Tommy Fanara (15 points), Jeremiah Ismeus (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Mike Van Luling (10 points, 7 rebounds) all starred for the Green Wave (10-4). The win also qualified Abington for the tournament.

Avon 60, Bishop Connolly 52: Corey Mckoy led all scorers with 18 points for the Panthers. Kenzel DaSilva added 10 points. Josiah Guerrier played big minutes in the fourth quarter and collected 7 rebounds to go with 8 points.

Blue Hills 47, South Shore Christian Academy 22: The Warriors won the low-scoring game.

South Shore Tech 57, Norfolk Aggie 47: Jesse Lyons (19 points, 11 rebounds) posted a double-double for the Bulldogs. Brandon LaFluer added 14 points and Billy Lally had 11.

Cohasset 57, Rockland 52: The Skippers improved to 10-4 with the win.

West Bridgewater 71, Westport 66 (OT): The Wildcats won in overtime.

Southeastern 93, Diman 61: The win moves the Hawks to 9-4.

Middlesex 58, Thayer 55: The Tigers drop to 1-15.

BC High 65, St. John's Prep 46: The Eagles improved to 14-0 as Mike Loughnane scored 26 points and handed out 7 assists while Mahari Guerrier (18 points, 9 rebounds) finished just shy of a double-double.

Bishop Fenwick 75, Cardinal Spellman 65: In the loss, Spellman was led by Jaydan Exalus (18 points, 12 rebounds), Marvin Petit-Frere (14 points) and D'Anthony Amado (11 points).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bishop Connolly 57, Avon 28: Hanelie Cadet and Kylie Mallet scored 10 points apiece for the Panthers in defeat while Christie Nelson played strong defense.

East Bridgewater 59, Carver 37: Sophie Bradbury (17 points) and Haley Murphy (15 points) led EB (15-1, 9-1) to a South Shore League win. Abby Johnson scored 11 points for Carver (8-7).

Mansfield 51, Stoughton 24: Vanessa Phelimond scored 8 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Black Knights. Leah McCarty chipped in 7 points and 7 rebounds.

Bishop Fenwick 75, Cardinal Spellman 65: Jaydan Exalus posted a double-double (18 points, 12 rebounds) in the loss. Marvin Petit-Frere (14 points) and D'Anthony Amado (11) also contributed offensively.

West Bridgewater 51, Westport 36: The Wildcats won the Mayflower League game.

Norfolk Aggie 45, South Shore Tech 42: Mia Bradshaw scored 16 points in the loss for the Vikings (13-3).

Thayer 59, Middlesex 39: The Tigers improved to 13-3.

WRESTLING

Hanover 41, Barnstable 33: Matthew Costello won 15-0 and John Ryan, Garrett Arnold, and Anthony Mann had pins to lead the Hawks.

Milton 41, Braintree 37: The Wildcats got individual wins from Alex Paxhia, Jackson Matejka, Alex Tran, Mason Pellegri, Ethan Dobrindt and Chris Burns to pull out the Bay State Conference victory. Milton is the Herget Division champion.
