HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Cardinal Spellman girls lacrosse teams win in overtime

The Cardinal Spellman High girls lacrosse team won a thriller on Monday.

Erin O'Donnell scored the game-winner in overtime as the Cardinals prevailed over Bishop Fenwick, 14-13. O'Donnell finished with 3 goals and 2 assists in the win and also added 16 draw controls.

Kathryn Lysko led the offense with 6 goals while Joy Sayah was solid in net with 15 saves. Marina Duffy (2 goals) and Elle Murphy (3 goals) also scored.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Norwell 16, Middleboro 1: Jane Smith and Mika Johnson each had hat tricks as the Clippers (9-6) got goals from 12 different players.

Cohasset 19, Hull 2: Molly Stephens and Laney Larsen each scored 4 goals apiece in the first half for the Skippers.

Abington 10, East Bridgewater 8: The Green Wave topped the Vikings in South Shore League action.

Mashpee 15, Rockland 1: Jess Esposito scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs.

Canton 14, Attleboro 4: Carly Fitzgerald, Ella Yeaton and Allie McCabe all had hat tricks for the Bulldogs. Maggie McCready scored her first career goal.

Duxbury 12, Medfield 11: The Green Dragons pulled out a close non-league win.

Austin Prep 15, Archbishop Williams 6: The Bishops lost in the Catholic Central League Cup.

BOYS LACROSSE

Quincy/North Quincy 19, Dennis-Yarmouth 1: Senior Joe Manton (5 goals, 2 assists) and sophomore Teddy Lynch (4 goals, 3 assists) led a parade of 11 different Presidents who scored. Mikey Galligan (goal, 3 assists), Cooper Hernon (3 goals) and Will Ploof (2 goals, assist) all had multi-point days while Riley O'Connell stopped 10 of the 11 shots he saw.

Sharon 13, Oliver Ames 9: Ben Reardon scored 4 goals and Wyatt Fritchman added a hat trick for OA in the loss. Ryan Jaco and freshman Shawn Teehan (first varsity goal) also scored. Tigers goalie Noah Isleib made 27 saves.

Southeastern 10, Upper Cape Tech 5: Thomas Hustins had 5 goals an an assist for the Hawks. Jacob Lehan won 12 faceoffs and tallied 2 goals while Jack Carifa stopped 12 shots.

Rockland 14, Mashpee 12: Justin Cronin (6 goals, 2 assists) and Lucas Leander (4 goals, 5 assists) had big days for the Bulldogs. Jake Higgins chipped in 2 goals and an assist.

Norwell 15, Scituate 9: On Saturday, Charlie Hartwell had 5 points in the loss for the Sailors (11-3).

BASEBALL

Quincy 10, North Quincy 4: Drew Boretti struck out 7 as the Presidents (9-8) won their fourth straight. Coleman Ross was 1-for-2 with two walks and 2 RBI, and Joe Hennessy was 2-for-3. For NQ, Vinny O'Leary had 2 hits, a run and an RBI. Max Guadiano (double, triple, RBI), Alex Montero (triple), Charlie Baker (run, RBI) and Johnny Lynch (run, RBI double) also starred.

Oliver Ames 12, Stoughton 1 (5 inn.): Ian Kelly (3 RBI), Jake Waxman (triple, 3 RBI), Jack Richardson (triple), Nathan Carpentier and Jack Muir (triple) each had 2 hits for the Tigers (9-8) in the Hockomock League win. Nick Clark pitched a complete game, allowing only 3 hits, with 8 strikeouts.

Cohasset 12, Rockland 11 (8 inn.): Austin Ronan walked it off with an RBI single for the Skippers (7-4). Travis McKeen got the win in relief, and Justin Appleby homered.

Plymouth South 7, Pembroke 1: Jack Obert tossed 5 innings of 2-hit ball to earn the win for the Panthers (12-2, 11-0) while Brycen Tetler went 3 for 3 with a double.

Hingham 8, Whitman-Hanson 6: Jake Schulte threw a complete game for the Harbormen (9-5) while allowing 1 earned run and 6 hits. Aidan Devlin was 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored. Bobby Falvey (RBI) and Tadd Cavanaugh (2 RBI) each had 2 hits. Matt Phelps had 2 hits in the loss for the Panthers (6-9).

Braintree 6, Weymouth 3: Josh Morelli worked 5 innings to earn the win on the mound for the Wamps (12-4); he added 2 hits and 2 RBI. Tyler Curtis pitched the final 2 innings for his 5th save, and Charlie Dimartino had 3 hits.

Milton 5, Needham 0: Charlie Walker improved to 6-1 on the season as he tossed 5 innings of shutout ball with 4 hits allowed and 9 strikeouts. Tommy Mitchell pitched the final 2 innings to polish off the shutout for the Wildcats (14-2). Owen McHugh and Ryan Dexter each drove in 2 runs, and Shea Donovan was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Bridgewater-Raynham 6, Dartmouth 2; Trent Smith earned the win for the Trojans with a solid start. Nolan DeAndrade had a hit and an RBI, and was intentionally walked 3 times. Mike Loguidice and Cam Morrison each had 2 hits and 2 RBI.

Arlington Catholic 8, Archbishop Williams 0: Matt Kowalski pitched well in the loss and had a triple as the Bishops (5-12) lost in the Catholic Central League Cup.

Marshfield 4, Plymouth North 3: Senior right-hander Jack Afanasiw earned the win for the Rams, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits over 6⅓ innings with 5 strikeouts. Sam Bernard notched the save. Sam Sullivan (2-for-4) drove in the winning run.

Scituate 5, Hanover 1: Winning pitcher Jordan Barthel allowed 3 hits over 6 innings with 8 strikeouts for the Sailors (11-4, 10-2 Patriot League). Jakob Henderson was 3-for-3 with a home run, 2 runs and 2 RBI. Connor Stone was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Avon 15, Randolph 0: On Sunday, Ryan Luddy struck out 10 over 4 innings of work for the Panthers. Nate Maguire was 2-for-2 with a triple, double and 3 runs scored. Mike Morais and Will Torres each had 2 hits.

Marshfield 4, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: On Saturday, junior Jack Keane tossed a shutout with only 1 hit allowed and 9 strikeouts. Harry Cooley had a hit and 2 RBI.

SOFTBALL

Quincy 17, North Quincy 5: Emma Glavin was 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI as the Presidents (5-11) won the city battle. Kate Downey (2-for-4, double, 2 runs, 3 RBI, 3 steals) also starred, along with Cady Hansbury (2-for-2, walk, run, 4 RBI), Maggie Lynch (2-for-3, triple, 3 runs, 2 RBI) and pitcher Erin Davies (7 strikeouts).

Plymouth North 8, Marshfield 7: The Blue Eagles (13-1) rallied to win on the road on Kylee Hefner's 2-run single in the seventh inning. Meg Banzi had 3 hits, and Hefner, Maggie Ladd and Marissa Durette each added 2. Marshfield is 9-9.

St. Mary's (Lynn) 7, Archbishop Williams 2: Shelby Parr didn't allow a run in 2 2/3 innings of relief for the Bishops (11-5) in the Catholic Central League Cup semifinal loss. Emma O'Neil and Ciara McMenamin each drove in a run.

Silver Lake 23, Duxbury 0: Bri Ghilardi threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the Lakers (15-1, 12-1 Patriot League).

Hanover 16, Scituate 1: Kaelyn Chase (3 runs), McKenzie Foley (home run, 4 RBI) and Kate Baldinelli (double) all had 3-hit days for the Hawks (11-4, 10-3). Winning pitcher Abby Smith threw a 3-hitter with 4 strikeouts and had a double and an RBI.

Hingham 7, Whitman-Hanson 6: The Harborwomen (11-3) edged the Panthers at home.

Needham 7, Milton 6: Alona Lynch took the complete-game loss for the Wildcats (8-5), allowing 4 earned runs with 3 strikeouts. She also was 3-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBI. Shakura Lynch, Brianna DiMaggio, Haley Boylan and Christina McA'Nulty all were 2-for-4.

Oliver Ames 12, Stoughton 5: Madison Monteiro was 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Maddie Homer (3 hits, 2 doubles), Caitlyn Miller (3 hits, 3 RBI) and Emily Martin (2 hits, RBI) also starred for OA. Katie Melendy pitched a complete game, scattering 7 hits and 3 earned runs, while striking out 4.

Bridgewater-Raynham 9, Dartmouth 1: Lily Welch pitched a 1-hitter with 12 strikeouts and 1 walk for B-R (8-7, 5-0 Southeast Conference). Taylor Feist had a 2-run double, and Abby Szumita and Olivia Roy each had 2-run singles. Riain Keefe had 2 hits, including a double, and scored a run.

Diman 14, West Bridgewater 6: Fallon Smith and Neala Boyd homered in the loss.

Abington 3, Oliver Ames 0: On Saturday, Shannon Varvitsiotis fired a 2-hitter with 2 walks and 9 strikeouts for the Green Wave (12-2). Maddie Perry led the offense with 2 hits, 1 RBI and a pair of runs. Katie Melendy pitched well in the loss.

Bridgewater-Raynham 9, Marshfield 8: On Saturday, freshman Holly Clary earned her first varsity win in 4 innings of work. Riain Keefe had 3 hits while Taylor Reid drove in 2 RBI. Sam Bongiolatti and Haylie McPhee had home runs for the Rams.

Hingham 6, Norwell 5: On Saturday, Maddie Aylward drove in the game-winning RBI with a double in the seventh inning.

GIRLS TENNIS

Oliver Ames 4, Stoughton 1: Senior captain Ally Brass won a three-set thriller on Senior Day for the Tigers at third singles. Hannah Farber won at first singles. Morgan Vasiliou/Caroline Peper swept first doubles while Shelby Brass/Kate McLaughlin took second doubles.

Bridgewater-Raynham 4, Dartmouth 1: The Trojans moved into a first-place tie with Dartmouth in the Southeast Conference, getting singles wins from Nicole Kimball (No. 1) and Holly Nichols (No. 3) and sweeping the doubles with the teams of Annaliese Colwell/Marlena Colwell (No. 1) and Smitty Sriram/Eily Mitchell (No. 2).

Hingham 5, Whitman-Hanson 0: Katelyn Erikson, Brooke Flynn and Kate Radulski won in singles for the Harborwomen (13-0, 12-0 Patriot League). Hingham swept the doubles with the teams of Teel Bowyer/Renee Martel and Agnes O'Reilly/Catelyn Arnold.

Duxbury 4, Silver Lake 1: Annabel Keating (No. 1) and Cara Cass (No. 2) won in singles, and the Green Dragons swept the doubles with the teams of Welles Holbrook/Audrey Hubbs (No. 1) and Taylor Florek/Agnes Buell (No. 2).

Braintree 4, Weymouth 1: Weymouth won second doubles with the team of Ali Parmelo/Sophia Mosley.

Quincy 3, North Quincy 2: The Presidents won the city battle.

BOYS TENNIS

Hingham 5, Whitman-Hanson 0: Teddy Reilly, Hector Munoz and Miguel Alanso won in singles for Hingham, and the teams of Liam Arnold/Logan Price and Charlie Even/Trevor Buckeridge won in doubles. The Panthers dropped to 6-9.

Oliver Ames 5, Stoughton 0: Nick Westerbake swept at first singles for the Tigers while the second doubles team of Ben Dias and Alex Vasilou won in three sets.

West Bridgewater 5, Diman 0: The Wildcats won the Mayflower Athletic Conference match.

The Thayer Academy girls track and field team won its 21st straight Independent School League championship on Saturday, May 14, at home. The ISL had not staged a championship meet since 2019.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

Thayer claims league crown: Host Thayer Academy won its 21st consecutive Independent School League crown on Saturday as Aoibhe Gormley, of Quincy, won the 400 meters (:56.73) and 200m (:25.94) and anchored the winning 4x400m relay. This was the first time since 2019 that the ISL had staged a championship meet.

Other highlights for Thayer: freshman Elle Grant (Canton) won the high jump (5-2), was 3rd in the high hurdles (:16.24) and ran on the winning 4x100m relay (:48.85); senior Chloe Clifford (Marshfield) won the 800m (2:21.61) and ran on the winning 4x400m relay; senior Bella Milano (Hingham) won the pole vault (10-6); junior Shea O'Neill (West Bridgewater) was 2nd in the 100m (:12.40), 2nd in the 200m (:26.15) and anchored the winning 4x100m relay in a come-from-behind time of :48.85; junior Toni Ierardi (Kingston) was 2nd in the discus (99-0) and 3rd in the shot put (32-5); and sophomore Bella Balducci (Hanover) was 4th in the high hurdles (:16.34) and 5th in the high jump (5-0).

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

Brockton stars at league meet: Jason Wonodi won the 100 meters (:11.0) and 200m (:22.0), and Mamadu Tchamo won the mile (4:49) and the 800m (2:03.1) as the Boxers were standouts at the Southeast Conference championship meet.

Also for Brockton: Anthony Canuto won the long jump (23-0.5), was 2nd in the 200m (:23.2) and 3rd in the 100m (:11.5); Christensen Paul was 2nd in the long jump and ran on the second-place 4x100m relay team; Malachi Johnson won the triple jump (41-10) and was part of the second-place 4x100m team; Nicholas O'Connell won the 2-mile (10:40.9) with Gavin Gareri in 2nd (11:38.3); Aaron Russell was 2nd in the shot put and 3rd in the discus; Antonio Tobon was 2nd in the 400m hurdles (1:03.4) with Henry Tait in 3rd (1:03.7); Malachi McClean (41-7) and Zaquan Barnes finished 2-3 in the triple jump; and Chris Gorynski was 3rd in the mile (5:02).

GIRLS GOLF

Duxbury 6, Scituate 0: At Widow's Walk, Duxbury got wins from Charlotte MacCallum (3 and 2), Tierney Regan (1-up), Harper Capilli (4 and 3), Layla Penn (2 and 1), Grace Landolfi (5 and 3) and Olivia Kyriakides (5 and 4). For Scitiuate, Sarah Spires, Maeve O’Connor and Erin Gibbons played well.

Hingham 4, Notre Dame Academy 2: The Harborwomen won the non-league match.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Quincy 3, Randolph 0: The Presidents (9-7) topped the Blue Devils on the road, 25-12, 25-12, 25-19. Quincy had 12 aces, 20 kills, 19 assists and 37 digs as a team.

North Quincy 3, Taunton 0: The Raiders improved to 11-1.

ULTIMATE (FRISBEE)

Abington 15, Plymouth North 3: Josh Flaherty had 7 assists for the Green Wave.
