HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Cardinal Spellman boys basketball extends win streak to seven games

The turnaround continues.

Kristian Simpson scored 12 points, and Jaydan Exalus added 10 on Monday night as the Cardinal Spellman High boys basketball team beat Bishop Stang, 57-45, for their seventh straight win.

The Cardinals, who started the season 0-5 before getting hot, got 9 points each from D'Anthony Amado and Marvin Petit-Frere.

On Sunday, the Cardinals beat O'Bryant, 67-64, as Simpson hit five 3-pointers en route to 26 points. Exalus (16 points, 7 rebounds) and Luke McSharry (11 points, 6 rebounds) also starred in that one.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Plymouth South 56, Duxbury 51: Pete Lamborn had 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Panthers (7-2) dug out of a 14-point hole to win a Patriot League game. Declan Davis had 15 points for South. Liam Davis added 12, and Justin LaChance chipped in with 10.

Apponequet 49, Middleboro 48: Senior guard Jalen Moore had 18 points and 4 rebounds, but the Sachems (8-3) couldn't get a shot to fall in the final seconds and lost a non-league game at home. Cam Downey (11 points, 8 rebounds) and Jacob Briggs (8 points, 7 rebounds) also starred for Middleboro.

Hull 69, Avon 32: Senior Gabe Griffin scored 31 points, and junior Tyler Sordillo added 11 as the Pirates cruised to a non-league win at home.

Canton 59, Southeastern 46: On Sunday, senior Lanse Dorcelus scored 27 points to power the Bulldogs (5-4) to their fourth straight win. Senior Dillon Nguyen added 9 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Norwood 58, Bridgewater-Raynham 25: Fiona Kelly had 8 points and a pair of steals, and Natalia Hall-Rosa added 7 points and 3 rebounds, but the Trojans (7-3) fell to unbeaten Norwood at home as the Mustangs shot 50 percent from field and connected for eight 3-pointers. B-R shot 23 percent from the floor.

Dracut 65, Brockton 51: The Boxers lost a non-league game at home.

Cardinal Spellman 52, Carver 41: The Cardinals (4-6) won a non-league game on the road.

TechBoston 54, Randolph 53: Jayla Smith (19 points) and Destiny Hurdle (12) played well in the loss.

BOYS HOCKEY

Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth 5, Blue Hills 1: Bobby Manning had a hat trick to power the Hawks (6-2, 5-0) to a Mayflower Athletic Conference win. John Whalen and Keagan Bunker (3 assists) also scored. Nolan Sturdevant added four assists, and goaltender Ryan LeBaron made 14 saves.

Canton 9, Foxboro 1: Pat Drury had a hat trick, and Brennan Pecararo and Jack Digirolamo each added two goals for the Bulldogs (8-2-1, 5-1) in the Hockomock League win. Sam Carlino and Jeffrey Chaput also scored.

Rockland 4, Middleboro 2: Jake Higgins scored twice, and Billy McGuire and Joey Salamone added goals as the Bulldogs (5-6, 3-2) beat the Sachems (5-5, 4-2) in South Shore League action. Sean Geary had two assists for Rockland, and Joe Dow made 23 saves.

Silver Lake 3, Dartmouth 2: Mark Kelleher had two goals, including the game-winner on the power play, for the Lakers (8-3). Bret Evans scored, Aidan Dunphy had two assists, and goaltender Peter Bond played well.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Duxbury 7, Whitman-Hanson/Silver Lake 0: Ayla Abban completed a hat trick for a 3-0 lead, getting the Green Dragons (11-0-2) off to a fast start against W-H/SL (6-6). Lily Sparrow, Maddie Greenwood, Beth Yucius and Lily McGoldrick added goals for Duxbury. Sparrow had three assists, and Megan Carney had two. Goaltender Anna McGinty posted the shutout.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS

Oliver Ames 139.8, Taunton 127.2: Among the highlights for the Tigers at Spectrum Gymnastics in Brockton: Kate McGarry scored 9.3 on floor exercise and 9.05 on bars; Abby DeCouto scored 9.2 on floor and 8.8 on beam; and Hallie Gramer scored 9.1 on vault.

Scituate wins quad meet: On Saturday, the Sailors scored 134.9 points to top Hingham (133.06), Hanover (130.55) and Plymouth North/South (129.95). Plymouth's Brooke Reardon won the all-around (36.9), sweeping all four events -- she scored 9.2 on vault, 9.2 on bars, 9.4 on balance beam and 9.1 on floor exercise. Hingham's Sienna Besser was second in the all-around (34.2) and Scituate's Lilly Wiechert was third (34.1).

GIRLS SWIMMING/DIVING

Plymouth North/South 98, Silver Lake/Whitman-Hanson 53: On Friday, the Plymouth co-op celebrated Senior Day with a win at the Kingsbury Club in Kingston. The all-senior 200 medley relay team of Morgan Adams, Ella Derby, Hannah Flockton and Emily Jenkins won in 2:08.75, as did the all-senior 400 freestyle relay of Adams, Flockton, Melanie Benner and Derby in 4:28.59.

Derby won the 200 free (1:58.66) and the 100 breaststroke (1:08.35), Adams captured the 500 free (5:58.15) and 100 backstroke (1:07.69), and Benner won the 100 free (1:10.84).

BOYS SWIMMING/DIVING

Silver Lake/Whitman-Hanson 76, Plymouth North/South 55: On Friday, the Plymouth co-op lost on Senior Day despite individual first-place finishes from Zack Adams (100 backstroke, 1:11.53) and Nate Derby (100 breaststroke, 1:07.12). Derby also qualified for states with his second-place finish in the 500 free (5:8.22).
